It won't come off.
No matter how much I scrubbed.
No matter how much I scratched
No matter how much I clawed.
It won't come off my skin.
It clung like a disease, thick and vile, consuming with greed, sticking desperately to remind me of what I did.
My nails dug deeper and deeper. I buried my fingers into my arm, tearing it, just so I could scrape it off.
I didn't mean to do it.
I didn't mean to.
I just wanted him to stop. I wanted him to leave her alone. But he wouldn't. He was being scary. Violent. More violent than usual.
Don't have friends, he said. They make you weak, he said. They make you vulnerable. They distract you.
Only love your parents.
And so he hurt her. My new friend. My third friend. My most dearest friend, more so than June and Alleny.
Knife. Blood. Red. Screams. Tears. Pain. Fear. Shock.
A shovel.
I think I hit him a little too hard.
I don't regret it.
It's just that it wouldn't come off.
