Chapter 38: Tales
Tyler woke up in a small bed filled with faux fur all over his body. He sat bolt upright, the cold hit him, and he gazed his sight around, still guards up. He grasped his necklace; to his relief, it was there.
The room was small. Fit for only one person. To his side, a small table was topped with lamp oil; its light was dimmed enough to avoid disturbing him in his sleep. But as soon as he moved, the light became brighter. Maybe the lamp oil was magical. Adjusting itself according to the movement and position of the person. The walls around him were made of glowing blue ice and shaped like a small dome. Tyler felt he was inside an old refrigerator.
A quick, gentle knock hit the wooden door.
"Tyler?" Amber asked from behind.
Tyler let out a sigh of relief. He got out of bed, and the floor was freezing. "H-Hey. Yeah. Coming."
"Hey." He greeted.
"Hi. Where are we?" He asked groggily. Amber was surprisingly still wearing his regular clothes. A red jacket and brown shirt inside. He guessed fire wizards are immune to cold weathers.
"Frozen Peaks. How are you feeling?" Amber asked.
"Frozen Peaks?"
"Maybe you forgot. Yeah. Frozen Peaks. The home of Ice wizards and demigods."
"Oh yeah. I forgot. Like the Fall Fields."
Amber nodded.
"Do you know where is Fergus?"
"Yes. He's outside. Eating."
Tyler tried to take another step, but he had brief vertigo, and Amber caught him and helped him go back to his bed.
"You should take a longer rest." He said.
"But I'm hungry." Tyler frowned.
"Alright. I'll get you food."
Tyler grabbed his hand and stopped him. Amber looked him in the eyes. "Is everything alright?" he asked worriedly.
But, Tyler did not respond to his question. Instead, he hugged him tight and whispered something to his ear.
"I am glad you're safe."
Amber slowly raised his hand and hugged him too. "Yes. I am glad we're safe. But, we still have a goddess to resurrect. And Noble Naflamuss told me that also the Tree of Iris was safely moved to Strifwick and currently being guarded and observed. They're still to figure out what's the best thing to do with it."
Tyler smiled and let go of Amber. "How about Pothos? Is he okay now?"
"Yes, he is alright now. An Erotes healed him together with other Water witches. They're so good at healing wounds. So you have nothing to worry about." He comforted.
Tyler smiled, and Amber stood. "I'll go get your food."
Tyler was left alone in his comfortable bed, thinking. He knew he shouldn't feel guilty about what happened to Hannah, but he couldn't help it. She sacrificed herself so they could escape. And defeating Dwergloud wouldn't be possible for them. Maybe for now. So they resorted to something that would cause someone to sacrifice to prevent him from consuming the blood of Gryphon. They trapped him, but that won't be for too long. They still have lots to accomplish.
He sprawled his back against the bed once again. He grasped his necklace and thought of his mum. He hoped that she was doing fine, and he wanted to tell her that he was well and was close to saving the goddess Hebe. He wanted to ask Amber what Kingsley told him about his family and his mum exposing her. But, he also didn't want to cross and invade his privacy.
