Chapter 2

Michael's POV

I stood at the opening for a while, letting my eyes adjust to the light. It all looked the same apart from the odd destroyed tree and burnt patch. What happened here? And why is it so quiet?

I started walking towards the direction that I knew to be the camp but as I got closer and closer to camp, the more confused I became. There were more monsters around the further and further I got, more than I've ever seen in one place, never mind around camp. I manged to avoid most of them and killed the ones which I couldn't. One caught my arm with their claw, I guess I need to relearn my sword tactics. Or at least get used to the swords weight again. It should come back naturally.

I paused as camp came into view. It looked a mess. I thought I'd be relieved to be back, but now, now I know why they let me out. The walls were mostly gone and one of the statues was missing an arm. This isn't good. What's even worse is how empty camp looked. Abandoned, by the looks of it. Not great. I sprinted towards the gate, dodging swings and sliding under others. A blade caught my leg at one point but I continued pushing forward until I reached the shield. I barged through it then turned back to look at the monsters who had now created a perimeter wall around the entrance. I sighed turning around, taking in camp. It wasn't as bad as it looked from the outside. The fountain was a bit cracked and the bushes a bit burnt but apart from that it looked okay. Still deserted though.

I wandered forward, sword still held high, scanning corners. Once I'd reached the baseball field and discovered that nothing was there, I put my sword away and turned slowly, organising my thoughts. Nothings here. Nothing. No one. Please tell me they're all okay. I know I acted like I didn't care but I actually did.

Then I saw something I thought I'd never see again, running towards me. And he'd never looked any more of a state.
