Chapter 12

Michael's POV

"why am I here?" I said as I followed Austin into the main hall.

"to help set up for the ball" Austin said while beginning to unpack a box of curtains and handing them to Bri beside him.

"yeah, I got that" I sighed, "but why me?"

"why not?"

"because I hate social gatherings and I can in no way, shape or form help out here"

Austin turned to Bri, pleading with his eyes for an answer. Bri, however, had other ideas. She glared at him then walked off, carrying the curtains with her. Austin, to put it simply, looked betrayed and after a moment, intelligently, decided to say, "...you can"

Really? All that for that response? I rolled my eyes. "no, I can't"

"...totally can" Austin said before slowly backing off towards the stage.

I sighed, shaking my head fondly in the process. Maybe since I have to be here, I can put that looming skill to good use- I am a child of Athena after all. I could make some drapes for the walls. A table cloth maybe? I've not done it in a while, it could be fun...

I slowly made my way over to a cabinet in the corner of the room to find some old wool, before turning to a bench. It clearly didn't belong here so I made the assumption pretty quickly that it wasn't going to stay. However, it would do for now. If it was needed elsewhere, I'll move.

I flopped down onto the bench pulling a pillow to my chest in the process. Okay, let's see if I can remember how to do this correctly. I began pulling out some of the wool and wrapping it around my needle, looping it through the past thread as I did so. It all came back quite quickly, not that I should be surprised, and I was soon left with a small patch of purple with gold streaks inside. No mistakes. That's a first. There's normally at least one small gap from a thread that I'd missed.

I looked towards it, a small sense of pride building inside me. That was until I saw the three people behind it, staring at me.

First, was Bri, who was smiling down at me while also writing down something on a checkboard.

Second, was Austin. He was beaming down at me, looking...proud?

Finally, was Ritchie, who looked absolutely gobsmacked.

I raised my eyebrow at the ginger specifically. "what?"

Ritchie sighed in response before mumbling under his breath, "well at least I know where that blanket came from..." The Ginger then decided to walk off, shaking his head, only to return a few seconds later with a large stack of papers and a quill.

Bri, at this point, had walked off to find Bryan and was now showing him the checkboard she was writing on before. She was gesturing wildly around the room, pointing at the board as she did so.

Austin had followed behind her not long after and was now nodding in agreement with everything that was said. He even pointed in our direction at one point.

Ritchie plonked himself down on the bench beside me, pulled out the first sheet of paper and then began writing. "so... you ever going to tell me you know how to loom?"

"I didn't exactly hide it from you..." I paused, "If you asked, I would have told you" I finished the line I was on then looked up at him, smirking, "and I mean, technically, I did show you"

Ritchie stopped what he was doing and looked up at me, "you placing a blanket outside my cabin in the middle of the night and then running off does not tell me you know how to loom"

"I-okay, maybe. But still, it's better than nothing..." I said returning my gaze to the needles.

"yeah, sure it is" Ritchie sighed, "real helpful"

"says the dude who's now doing calligraphy"

"son of Hermes, messenger of the gods. You think I'm not going to be able to write messages?"

"no, but calligraphy is a stretch. It does explain the perfect handwriting though"

Ritchie hummed in agreement, "I guess so"

I looked up from whatever I was making to look over his shoulder at what he was writing, "you're making invitations?" Ritchie hummed in agreement. I looked at him incredulously, "can't they just, you know, tell people?"

He chuckled, "I guess not. You know this camp. It's very dramatic"

I laughed, "you're not wrong"

Wow, its been a while, hasn't it? Yeah, I'm sorry for how long it took to get this chapter out. I just generally didn't know what to write next. I know where I want to go but I just had no idea for this singular chapter because I wanted at least another chapter before the ball. I know its a bit small but that's mainly because I've been writing a future chapter which is like 4 pages long. But hey, we got there and I now know what I'm doing for the next few chapters so they should come out a lot quicker.

I just wanted to clarify while I'm here that this is not going to be season 2 compliant as far as I'm concerned. If, when I've finished the storyline I have planned, I still want to continue this then I might arrange my storyline to fit in with season 2 and maybe rewrite parts so that these two (maybe three even with Austin) are actually there. You know, Riccaro could get another mum (one that's already accepted his role) and another brother. Austin and Riccaro would be so pure. I'm ranting now. Basically, if I get that far, then I'd love to join it in with the season 2 storyline but we've got to get there first.
