My feet sting as they hit the ground. I don't hesitate a second, though. I run towards the oak tree and the silencers turn towards me. I get a good grip on my knife and wipe my other, clammy hand on my jeans.

One, two, three, I think and stab a silencer right in the head. I struggle for a second with my knife, because it's a bit stuck. Finally, I pull it out, but a silencer is already behind me with it's hands on my shoulder. I turn ice cold and scared, but I pull back my arm and stab the silencer with my knife and kick it away.

I didn't stab it in the head, though and it's right back up again. I kick it's legs out and when it falls I stab it in the head. Disgustedly, I pull my knife out and turn to check on the kitten. It's grey and is adorable! Putting my knife in it's sheath, I walk to the kitten and pick it up. It must have climbed down during the fight.

Crunch! I can hear leaves being stepped on. With the kitten in my hands, it's a girl, I turn towards the noise. A whole crowd of walkers emerges and I suck in my breath. I could probably take 'em, but I'd rather not risk a fall or a life, I think looking at the kitten.

After running a bit and walking a bit, I stumble across a gated generator. At least it has a fence, so it's safer than walking around at night. I look around for a gate and find it. I open the gate and softly close it behind me. Inside, I let the kitten go, hoping she won't climb over the fence. She doesn't and we both fall asleep, my head on the stone slab and the kitten's on my arm.
We sleep, while the woods seem to also. The silence that follows is peaceful and almost soothing.
