Alexandria's POV
Fiona was basically stalking outside the meeting room. She paced impatiently outside while grilling me with questions about Xander and I. I wish I had more answers for her, but how do you explain just being pulled to someone even across great distance. I craved his presence. It was like a drug. I just felt better near him, and the more I learned about the mate bond the more I considered that it may have been what brought me to the city in the first place.
I didn't expect the meeting to end with an outburst from Xack and Xander. This was starting to get out of control. I didn't know how to make two egotistical wolves get along, but I knew how to comfort Xander. Xerxes and Xavier were holding him back from him. I couldn't hear the context over the pack gathered, but I could feel how he was seething. He was in a murderous rage.
His high emotional state drew me to him more and wove my way through the crowd to him. It was made easier by how much smaller I was then all of them. I didn't even see any of them anymore. I just saw Xander in need, and there I was before him placing a hand on each side of his face. I felt my calm transferred onto him, and his rage slip away. I didn't even notice the silence that had enclosed around us, as I soothed him. It felt like there was nothing around us anymore. It was just him and I, and this moment.
He lowered his forehead to mine and cradled my face in his hands too. I could feel the direct connection between us again like before, but it wasn't used to communicate words this time. It was as if the emotions within us passed to each other. I could sense every emotion within him. They all coursed through me until his emotions felt the same as mine, and it was just us and this exchange in time.
He broke from me to announce me as his mate to the pack, and everyone present cheered. The ones in the room already knew but now the whole of the pack knew and approved. Everyone except the Gamma who was already gone. I know in this moment it didn't matter to Xander as he beamed at my approval, but I wondered if there was anything I could do to win him over too. I didn't want Xander to lose anything because of me. I didn't want him to feel resentful towards me for what I had cost him.
After the crowd dispersed Fiona practically dragged me away only to be halted by Xerxes and Xander, "Where do you think you are going with my new daughter?" Xerxes poked at her, with a rather mischievous grin.
"You mean my new sister? You already have a daughter. I am severely lacking in the sister department."
"I think you are both confused." Xander boomed scooping me into his arms, like he was a caveman ready to drag me off after clubbing me. "Where do either of you think you are going with my mate?" There was a great big explosion of laughter from the three of them. I couldn't help but join in, after all they were fighting over me and it sure made me feel like I was already a vital member of this group.
"Well dear brother, I have to accompany her back to the shops to pick up the rest of her clothing."
"Well, I really do have every intention of getting to know the woman who kept my son waiting for 60 years, so count me in." Xerxes chirped in, and I could tell he was amused by all the banter and obvious love his family shared in. I was still being crushed against Xander's massive body in his arms, while they continued their exchange as if it was a common occurrence.
Xander sighed heavily, and I loved the way his chest rose and fell into me. His presence was so intoxicating to me. "Son, don't you have Alpha/ Beta business to attend to with your brother?" They all turned as if to see Xavier standing there, but he was nowhere to be found.
"Well since he's not here I guess I'll keep myself busy with my mate."
He turned as if to pad off, when a rather deep female voice commanded from the stairs, "You will do no such thing. I'll be damned if you're going to wander off with the girl when you need to be on your best behavior. Maybe everyone else in the room is afraid to tell the Alpha what to do, but a mother never will be." She made her way down the staircase like a queen holding her head high. The authority she commanded was obvious. Xander placed me down on my feet in front of him and side stepped me to embrace his mother.
