I woke up to the beautiful soft notes of a keyboard. I rolled over, trying to ignore it but I couldn't. I sighed and got up, leaving Chris' room and going down the hallway to Josh's room. I opened his door and poked my head in. Balz was sitting on his bed, playing his keyboard. I walked in, I wasn't sure if he noticed me or not, and sat down next to him.
"That was beautiful." I said, when he finished.
"Thank you." Balz said quietly.
He placed his keyboard on the bed and sighed. Balz looked at me. "You okay?" he asked.
I nodded. "I'm fine."
"You sure?" he asked.
"Yes..why wouldn't I be fine?" I asked.
Balz shrugged and got up, grabbing his keyboard. He placed it back on it's stand and then looked at me. "Let's go find the others." he said, holding his hand out for me to take.
I hesitated but took his hand and he pulled me up, leading me down the stairs. I heard voices in the living room and knew the rest of the guys were in there. Balz let go of my hand as we got closer. When Devin saw me, he smiled up at me. I returned it and felt Chris' eyes on me. I looked down as Chris came over, wrapping an arm around my waist.
"How did you sleep?" he asked me, rubbing my back.
"Fine, you?" I asked.
"Great." he said, kissing my cheek.
Devin frowned, sensing the uncomfortableness coming from me. He stood up. "Chris, is it alright if Kerstin comes into town with me? I need to do some shopping." he said.
Chris looked between us. I knew Devin had a plan and it didn't involve shopping. He shrugged. "Sure, if she wants too though."
I smiled and ran upstairs to get dressed.
--
Once I was ready, Devin and I left. He was quiet until we were away from the house. He looked back and then at me. "I got a call today..well..you did..on your phone."
"From?" I asked.
"Matt." Devin said.
I was shocked. "Matt?! He's a live?!" I said, jumping up and down.
Devin grabbed me, shushing me. "Shhh shut up, Kerstin. Listen, I'll take you to see him but you need to calm down." he whispered.
"Sorry." I said, settling down.
"Come on, let's go." Devin said, grabbing me.
--
We arrived at the hospital and I looked at him. "Matt's here?" I asked.
Devin nodded. "Yes." he said.
I sighed as we walked inside. The nurse looked up and stared at Devin. Devin smiled at her and she looked away. He pulled me along the cooridors, looking for Matt's room. When we found it, he opened the door and let me go in.
Matt was laying in the hospital bed, all hooked up, I brought my hands up to my face, trying not to cry. "Matty?" I choked out.
Matt looked over at me. "Kerstin.." he said, reaching towards me.
I ran over and hugged him, careful not to hit any of the wires that were on his chest. "I thought you had died." I said.
"I almost did.." he whispered into my hair.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Someone heard the screaming and called the police.." Matt said.
"I'm so sorry baby..I didn't want any of this to happen to you." I said, starting to tear up.
Devin walked over and placed a hand on my back. I looked up at him and then back at Matt. "This is my friend, Devin." I said.
"I know. He plays a pretty mean bass." Matt said, smiling a little.
Devin chuckled softly. "Thank you."
"When do you get to go home?" I asked Matt.
"I'm not sure." Matt said.
The lights began flickering suddenly. "Shit.." Devin mumbled. I looked back at him. "Devin, what's going on.." I said.
"Kerstin, we need to leave." Devin said, grabbing my arm. I pulled away from him.
"What? No!" I said, going back over to Matt.
The lights went out.
--
"Devin?" I asked.
"They know we're here.." Devin said, grabbing my hand.
The door flung open and two black figures ran past me. I heard Matt's agonizing screams. Another figure grabbed Devin, and the other grabbed me, pulling out into the hallway. "Let me go!" I screamed.
"Shut up!" Ricky hissed in my ear.
I calmed down and soon the lights came back on. Chris and Angelo walked out of the hospital room, blood dripping from their mouths. I screamed. "No!" and ran out of Ricky's grasp, trying to push past Chris and Angelo.
Chris grabbed me and pulled me against himself. I was hitting him in the chest, trying to push him away so I could go see Matt's body, even though I knew he was dead. I screamed again when I felt the tip of a needle go into my neck.
"Why did you do that?!" Devin's voice was the last thing I head before everything went black and I collapsed in Chris' arms.
--
I woke up later in Chris' bed. I blinked a few times, not remembering anything that had happened. "Chris?" I asked. My voice was hoarse.
"Hey beautiful." Chris said, moving the hair out of my face.
"What happened?" I asked, trying to sit up.
He gently pushed me back down. "You hit your head."
"Oh.." I said, laying back down.
Devin opened the door. "Chris, Ricky needs to talk to you."
Chris looked at Devin and then got up, kissing my forehead. He walked over to Devin, whispering something to him, then walked out of the room. Devin motioned to the left of him and Balz, Ryan and Angelo came in. Devin closed and locked the door.
"What's going on?" I asked as Balz helped me up.
"We're leaving." Balz said.
"Leaving?" I asked.
"I told you I was going to get you out of here." Devin said, helping Angelo pack my stuff.
Ryan opened the window and jumped out. He came back a second later. "We're good." he said.
Balz picked me up bridal style and I wrapped my arms around him as he jumped out the window after Ryan. Angelo and Devin joined us a second later, bags in their hands. We threw the bags into the van and Devin got in the back, taking me from Balz. I curled into him. Balz sat in the seat in front of us while Angelo got in the driver's seat and Ryan in the passanger's.
As we pulled away from the house, I looked out the window. I knew this wasn't going to be the last time seeing Chris. I knew we weren't going to get away with this.
