It had been a couple of days since Shawn and I's anniversary and we were finally able to have dinner to celebrate. He had taken it upon himself to plan this little date alone. Every time I asked what exactly we'd be doing, he'd tell me it was a surprise and I would just have to wait.
Although I loved surprises, I wanted to at least know how to dress. His only indication was to dress casually.
I ended up deciding on some ripped jeans and a striped long-sleeve top. It was simple but nice in case he tried to surprise me. I paired it with the skeleton key necklace Shawn got me on our first date, I wore it almost every day which he loved.
When I entered our living room to find him waiting for me on the couch, I smiled seeing he was also dressed casually. He was wearing a fitted blue t-shirt paired with his usual black jeans and black booties. He stood, walking towards me only to press a light kiss to my forehead.
"Five years baby." He mumbled, pulling me against his chest.
I snuggled against him, breathing in his scent while wrapping my arms around his torso. "Five best years of my life."
He rubbed down my back for a moment making me think about just skipping the date but he pulled away before I could act on my thoughts. "You ready to go?" He asked me.
I nodded a response. We headed out to his car, where he opened the door for me like always. I grinned while sliding into the passenger seat. Once he was in the car and started the engine, I began questioning him.
"So where exactly are you taking me on this special date?" I asked, grinning widely while turning my body to face him.
He chuckled. "It's a surprise until we get there." I frowned at this.
The drive was short and ended at a bowling alley. I turned to look at him, a small laugh escaping my lips. "The alley from our first date?" I asked him. We hadn't been back probably since that date. Shawn was terrible at bowling.
He laughed softly. "Yeah, I thought it'd be kind of fun."
I smirked. "I hope you're ready to lose, Mendes," I told him, already climbing out of the car.
The building was exactly the same as I had remembered it. The smell of kids, sweat, and pizza filled my nose bringing back all the memories from our date. Shawn watched me take everything in, amusement playing on his face. We paid for our lane and got our shoes before heading to get our balls. He, of course, was able to carry a much heavier one than I was.
Our game went quickly. We ended up playing with the bumpers because Shawn didn't want to get zero points, which I thought was hilarious. I won by ten points but tried not to rub it in Shawn's face.
"You got way better from last time we played, babe," I told him, kissing his cheek softly.
He chuckled. "Should we go get ice cream?"
I laughed. "Just like we did the first time I won."
He smiled as if that had been his plan. "Come on, let's take our shoes back."
We went to the same little ice cream parlor we had on our first day. We both got two scoops of regular chocolate before taking a seat to eat it. "Same as always," He mentioned, pointing to my ice cream.
I giggled softly before pointing to his. "I could say the same."
He grinned at me. I admired his perfect smile, watching as he glanced from me back to his little cup to gather his next bite. He was beautiful.
"Why are you staring?" He asked me with a smirk.
"Because I just love you so much," I replied with a joking voice, though I wasn't joking in the slightest.
He bit his lip gently. "I love you too," he replied, much more serious.
It still sent chills down my body to hear him say that.
"So," I said, setting down my empty cup. "Where next on this amazing date?"
He grinned. "I was thinking of a walk in the park," he suggested.
I smirked. "So we are recreating our first date," I said with a small laugh. I giggled. "I think that sounds like a wonderful idea."
As we left the ice cream parlor, I slipped my hand into his. It was much darker outside now. The park was just a few blocks from where we were so the drive was short. As we walked the trails of the park we talked about how far our relationship had come since we were last here. We laughed and would joke while we held hands.
He stopped walking as we crossed over a small bridge. It went over where there's usually a river, though the water was low tonight. He turned to stare at me, the setting sky gave enough light for me to see his face with a golden hue to it. I smiled, touching his cheeks lightly.
He smiled, taking one of my hands in his, leaning into my hand before pressing a kiss to the palm.
"I love you so much," he spoke quietly.
"I love you more," I replied.
"Five years ago, I brought you to this same bridge, after this same date, at roughly the same time. It's been five years. I loved you then, even though I hadn't said it yet, and I love you even more now," he told me. As he spoke, he pulled my hands off his face and dropped them back to my sides. I stared at him in admiration and confusion, but before I could say anything he was moving again.
He reached into the pocket of his jeans and pulled out a small box.
I felt my breathing hitch, my hands coming to up to cover my mouth. "Shawn," I mumbled.
He dropped to one knee in front of me, huffing a breath before turning to stare up at me. His eyes had tears in them, as I'm sure mine did to.
"(y/n)," he whispered. "I have loved you since the moment I met you. I can't imagine a life without you. You make me happier than anyone in the world, I wanna feel that happiness for the rest of my life."
I felt the tears rolling down my cheeks now.
"Will you marry me?" He asked me, holding the closed box.
I nodded quickly, unable to get my words out. After a few breaths, I chuckled softly. "Yes, yes oh my god yes." I said.
He stood quickly, pressing his lips against mine which I returned easily.
"Open the box," I said excitedly.
He laughed softly while wiping a tear off his cheek. "I can't. I locked the box five years ago," he told me.
I looked at him, the most confused I had felt all night. "Wha-"
But before I finished, he pointed to key on the necklace he had given me on our first date. "There's the key." He whispered.
I didn't know what to say. I looked between him and my necklace a few times before slowly undoing the chain. I handed him my necklace before he slipped the key into the small hole on the box. After he turned it, the lid popped open revealing a dainty gold ring with a round diamond.
I let out a small sob as he redid my necklace around my neck and then slid the ring onto my finger. "Shawn, I- how did you even think of this?"
He smiled thoughtfully, giving my hand a small squeeze. "I knew you were the one I'd marry. I've always known." He kissed me softly again, pulling me tightly against him.
A/N This has been the longest imagine I've ever written. It's almost the length of a full chapter. I usually aim for 500 words for imagines and this is 1300. Either way, I don't know how I came up with this idea but I love it so much.
I hope y'all enjoyed reading it, I thought it was a really cute imagine. I'll hopefully be updating more this week, I got a little busy with school but that should calm down soon.
Don't forget to vote and comment because I love hearing y'all's feedback, also please check out my other books if you like my writing. I have another Shawn fanfic up called Priorities that I love so much and will updating tomorrow so go catch up!
I love you all so much and I'll talk to y'all soon! Bye!
