For as long as I can remember, it has always been me and my dad. Well, mostly just me. My dad was busy at the studio and doing his job that I usually had myself to entertain.
As much as I love him, there always a part of me that holds a grudge. I've lost track of how many birthdays he's missed and father-daughter dinners that he promised he'd make time for. Most of the time the house was quiet because he was at work, and I had no one to tell my achievements to.
I'll always remember the day though when he offered me to be an extra in one of his movies. I was ecstatic. It meant that I could go to work with my father and see him for most of the day. But every time I was at the studio, my dad would push me aside and focus on the new project he was directing.
So, I waited. I waited and waited for my father to finally look up and see me, till at age fifteen I gave up and accepted that I was never going to be his number one priority.
That's when I decided to focus on acting. I auditioned at various agencies and landed a gig for a web drama, and moved on from there. I thought to myself if I wanted to get my father to see me, I had to do it in a way that would get him to notice.
But slowly, day by day, my main priority became acting and no longer impressing my dad. I didn't check my phone to see if he would call me, or if I received any gifts congratulating me on a new show I was in. I became invested in my career and doing what I loved.
With a not so close relationship with my father, you can see why I was surprised to see him on my doorstep.
"Is it Jennie?" I hear August ask and his footsteps coming closer. I stare at my dad in bewilderment until I feel August standing behind me.
"Who is that?" He whispers in my ear. I flinch and quickly shut the door in front of me. "Dude, that wasn't very polite of you." August reaches out his hand to open the door when I stop him. "That's my dad," I say.
August's eyes widen. "Really? George Merrill? He looks too old to be your dad." I nudge his stomach with my elbow and walk to the living room to sit on the couch. "Ow," He whines and walks over to me. "Well, aren't you gonna open the door and greet your dad?"
I shake my head. "No. Why would I?" I scowl and take a sip of my coffee. "How the heck did he even find the address to this place?" I mutter.
The doorbell rings again and I run to the bedroom, bringing my coffee with me and shutting the door. "Don't open it!" I yell.
"I'm gonna do it!" I hear August yell back.
"Don't you dare!" I hear the door open and I groan, taking a sip of my coffee out of stress.
"Jennie, hey."
"Hi. Where's Emery?"
"Oh, she's in the bedroom getting ready for our date."
Date? I scowl and slam the door open, ready to yell at August when I stop my tracks. There Jennie was, with Kevin and Garrett and Maple, but behind them was my father.
I calm myself down and walk right next to August. "Ha, he's just kidding. We aren't going on a date." I smile and playfully punch August, making sure to punch him a bit too hard. "Anyways," I begin, taking another sip of my coffee. "Why is my father here?"
Instead Jennie of answering, Maple does. Well, sort of. "Where are your mics?" August points to the bedroom and Maple orders him to get it, which he does.
"We'll tell you once we set up for filming," Maple says takes the mics from August. Garrett sets up his camera and the rest enter inside the house, shutting the door behind them.
