It has been a couple of months since the first episode of We Found Love aired, and August and I have finally gotten into the groove of how we make this "marriage" work.
"Okay, so," I began, holding a sheet of paper in front of me. It was about two weeks into filming, and August and I were both sitting at the dining table. We decided to come up with a list of responsibilities we had in the apartment and what we plan on doing during the non-filming days.
Jennie and the crew weren't with us since it was a Saturday, and we felt like it wasn't a good idea to treat our marriage as a business relationship, contract and all, in front of them.
"Obviously if needed, you'd be the one doing the majority of the cooking while I just help with the basic stuff. I'd take care of the basic cleaning around the house, but when the time comes to do some heavy-duty cleaning we both do that together." I looked up from the paper and August nods, signaling me to continue.
"We both agree during our non-filming days, we won't be together most of the time. Which will not make Gail or Jennie happy, but if we work hard enough on the filming days they shouldn't have a problem." I continued reading down the list, talking about other things we agreed to, like how we would limit the lovey-dovey act only when we're filming and to promote the show.
The last thing was mostly my idea because there was a part of me that would always fall August's antics, despite knowing that it's all a facade. But, in the end, we both signed the contract and agree to abide by the rules during the duration of our marriage. It put me at ease that we knew where our boundaries were and I didn't have to feel like I had to tiptoe around him.
It was the first Friday of December, and I was currently sitting and chatting with Kira in my living room.
"I forgot how much I missed this couch," I say happily. "This beautiful, expensive couch." Kira laughs and takes a sip of her beer.
"So, back to the topic at hand, you and August are basically having a contract marriage." She tells me. I raise an eyebrow. "Contract marriage?" I ask.
"It's just like what the name suggests. You guys got married for the sake of benefits, not for love. It's pure business for the two of you."
I roll my eyes, taking a sip of my drink. "Mind you, this is a fake marriage, a marriage meant for reality T.V. Also, I needed some sort of buffer between August and me." I sigh, slouching on the couch. "He knows I like him and he knows I know that he doesn't feel the same, but the affection he gives me just makes me so confused."
Kira nods. "I get what you're saying. But, that's what you get for signing up for this type of show. It just appalls me that he hasn't developed some sort of romantic feelings for you. I mean, We Found Love is known to create real chemistry between two people. It's basically a matchmaking service for celebrities!"
I scoff and open another can of beer. "It's fine, it's almost been two months since we started this show, and I'm surviving." I glance at Kira. "How about you? How are you and Joshua?"
Kira catches my stare and then looks away, hesitant to respond. "What?" I ask. "Did something happen?"
She looks down at her can for a moment and then back at me. "It hasn't been publicly announced, but he and I broke up."
My eyes widen. "Really? Why?" I was absolutely shocked! Throughout the whole country, Kira and Joshua were known as the epitome of a perfect relationship. If you wanted to know what true love was, you just needed to look up those two.
"I don't know when it really started, but he and I were growing apart." Kira begins. "His solo music career was thriving, and I was so busy with filming and promotions. We tried to make it work, but he was so focused on his career that he never had time for us."
