Sokka's POV

"No one understands my pain." I whispered, hugging my pillow tightly. I was laying down on my bed on the right side of my body. I look outside my window. It was completely dark and I could hardly see. It was the middle of the night and I couldn't sleep.

I sighed. "I don't know how to feel." I mumbled under my breath. "I've never felt this way before."

"I like Suki but I don't think I do!" I thought. "What? That doesn't make sense." I moved over to the other side of my body. I was feeling restless. "Nothing's ever made sense. It's like I'm forcing myself to like her!" I grabbed my head. My head was aching so bad. I rustled around on my bed. I was going crazy over a girl I broke up with myself.

I was rustling when I heard the stairs creak. "It's the middle of the night. Who could that be?" I pretended to fall asleep when I heard someone open my door. Whoever it was peeked in for a couple seconds before closing the door.

I slowly stood up from my bed and tip-toed to the door. I waited for the right moment. I slammed the door open and pinned the person down on the floor. Since the hallways were pitch black, I couldn't see who it was.

"Ahhh!" The person screamed. The person sounded familiar. I placed my hand on the person's face to feel their features. I recognized who it was as soon as I laid my hands on their face. "T-Toph? Is that you?"

"Yeah..." Toph responded, sounding embarrassed. "I'm sorry. I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to check up on you." I let go of her face and dropped beside her.

We were both laying on the cold floor. It was pitch black and I couldn't see anything. "So, what now?" I asked. "Uh, I don't know. Should we get up?" Toph responded. She sounded really tired. "No, I don't feel like getting up yet." I added, "You sound really tired."

"That's because I am." Toph confessed, "I've actually been awake for an hour now. I was thinking of you."

"Me?" I clarified, "Why?" Toph chuckled. "You stormed off awhile ago when we were talking with Katara and Aang."

"Oh, yeah—sorry." I apologized. Toph moved to face me. "You don't have to. I know how you feel. I loved someone before but I knew it wouldn't work out so I just stopped trying."

"What? When?" I asked, wanting to know more. I moved over to face Toph. I couldn't exactly see her but I could feel her hot breath against my skin.

"Satoru. I just told you last night, remember?." She responded sternly. "I still think of him and it drives me crazy. I even had a dream of him last night."

I bit my lip. "I had no idea." I furrowed my eyebrows. "How can you mask your emotions so... well?"

Toph chuckled, as if astounded by my lack of knowledge. "I don't mask it, meat head. I just moved on, ya know."

"How'd you do it?" I asked, genuinely curious. I couldn't see but I could sense that Toph was smiling.

"I found someone new to love."

Those words hit me like Sozin's comet soaring through the atmosphere. "That's it!" I sighed in relief. "That is why I felt so confused! I still like Suki, but the reason why I don't want to be with her is because there's someone I love more."

I grinned, "I think we're going through the exact same problem, Toph."

"Really?" Toph questioned me. "Yeah." I responded, "I like Suki, but I realized there's someone I love more."

Toph asked, "Who?" I squinted my eyes, trying to think. "Actually, I don't know. My subconscious is telling me that there's someone I love more but I just can't seem to put my finger on it."

There was a long pause before Toph broke it, "Sokka, could you keep a secret?"

"Sure, anything." I obliged. Toph had comforted me for two nights in a row. I promised to keep her secret safe at all costs.

"I'll tell you who I like but you shouldn't tell anyone." She giggled as she said this."Mhm." I accepted, nodding.

"Sokka, the person I like is—"

*creak*

I stood up. "W-Who's there?"  I approached the stairs.

"Relax. It's me, Katara." Katara explained. "Oh, hi... I'm sorry for getting mad a few hours ago." I apologized.

Katara hugged me, "Don't worry about it, Sokka." Katara broke away from the hug and faced the direction of my slightly-open bedroom door. "Do you know where Toph is?"

"I'm here." Toph said, proving her presence. "I'm on the floor."

"What? Why?" Katara stared at the direction of her voice. It was still pitch black and it was still the middle of the night.

"We were... talking." I explained. "While lying down on the floor."

"I'm not even going to ask." Katara brushed it off. "The sun's about to rise soon. Since you're all awake, you might as well get ready. We need to pick up Zuko when he arrives."

I complied with her. I walked over to Toph. She was still lying on the floor, completely motionless. "Are you dead?" I joked. "Come on, get up. Grab my hand." I held out my hand for Toph to grab. It took a few seconds for Toph to locate my hand, but when she did, she gripped on it hard. "Woah, you okay?" She chuckled, "Yeah. Let's get going."
