chapter twelve
baby blue

KATE HAD eventually returned though y/n and miles were not home. they had left on their own,  roaming around the fields again. their fingers intertwined with each others once again. they sat in the field with daises, watching the sky change colors. the dull grey sky was now blooming with colors. reds, oranges, magentas and deep indigos all filled the sky. the leaves on the trees swayed softly, some even fell to the ground. the orange and red stained the once green leaves.

"i love you" miles whispered. y/n turned to face him, she looked confused at his sudden remark. he turned to face her too. "i don't know what i'd do without you, you keep me sane amongst all this. god you're a fucking angel, since the day i met you i knew you were an angel. i guess after all this tragedy there is always something to keep you smiling." miles smiled, reminiscing that sunny day beneath that oak tree. he than leaned in everything seemingly to fall perfectly into place. yet when he whispered, "kiss it off me"it was off, something was off, this is wrong, somethings wrong this isn't right. alarms bursted into her head to run, run as fast as she could. yet instead she leaned in and gave into her drug.

she felt butterflies burst through her stomach. she swore she could feel hearts surround them. he rested his hand gently on her cheek as he leaned in. when he pulled away she pouted, leaning in again not wanting the warmth to ever leave her. "your nose is bleeding." he touched just above her lip, warm blood spilled quickly from her nose. "i, i've never had a nosebleed before" she felt queasy, when she looked up at miles he looked so different, so much like that corpse, like quint, he licked the blood from his finger, smiling that god awful smile. "aw did i make you that nervous?" miles teased, getting his sleeve and gently cleaning the dripping blood. she didn't answer, everything felt so wrong.

"hey c'mon it's not a big deal, look cleaned up already!" miles cheered standing up and stretching. he pulled her to her feet. "yeah, i guess you're right" she couldn't help but stare at the blood on his sleeve. she needs to get ahold of herself, god that quint stuff really did mess her up. "wanna do something fun?" miles grinned slyly. "like what?" y/n tilted her head slightly. "like swimming in the river! it's just a little ways down here!" miles intertwined their fingers pulling her towards the river. y/n pushed off her the growing fear in her stomach, instead focusing on miles. she ran with him giggling as he tripped a bit on a rock.

when they got to the river they were panting, y/n's lungs burned as she inhaled the cold air. miles took his shirt off throwing it to the side. "miles! you'll freeze!" y/n panted, her cheeks a bright pink. "nah it's not even that cold." he threw off his shoes and his socks followed closely after. "aren't you coming?" he asked as he wadded to the river, with only his boxers. the cold didn't even bother him as he sunk his head into the river. y/n nodded, biting her lip as she slowly took of miles' sweater, than her yellow floral print dress. carefully she took of her socks and began to walk into the water. she shivered and her teeth chattered at the cold. "you big baby it's not even cold!" miles taunted her. "sh-shut up!" she blushed crimson, not liking having her body so bluntly exposed. miles pulled her waist in and she screamed at the shock of the cold. he laughed at her, trying hard to stay afloat. she splashed water into his mouth and than a water war began.

y/n swam under water to hid from his splashes. it was so dark under the water with just the moon as a source of light. she swam around occasionally going up for air. she saw something not far in the water, it gleamed under the light. swimming towards it out of curiosity. the closer she got the more she made out the shape of a body. miss jessel lay twisted beneath the river. her body had turned pale and swollen from the intake of so much water. her eyes were still open. it looked like she was still alive, yet she lay there, unmoving. y/n screamed bubbles flushed around her, rushing to the surface. she screamed and thrashed through the water. once she reached the land she sobbed hugging her knees.

she began to wheeze not being able to get oxygen and panicking. miles rushed over to her hugging her and asking what happened repeatedly. she clawed at his chest leaving shining red marks on his pale skin. she gripped at her own throat, her body squirming around in the dirt, her face had begun to turn very pale as her lips became a bright blue. she cried and attempted to scream, all while wheezing. miles had started to cry, begging her to breath, to calm down. he pulled at his hair trying to think of what to do. he put his sweater on her, wrapping his arms around her and trying to keep her warm. he started to sing to her softly, holding her so close he could feel her heart rapidly beat against his chest. slowly she began to calm down. focusing on anything but the dead body slowly rotting away in the river.
