Tiffany is an alcoholic... she deals with grief by drinking her pain away. Her pain is living. Her mother passed away when she was 13 and her father believed it was all her fault, deeming her a killer, a taker of life.

She feels responsible for the death of her mother and regrets being unable to say goodbye to her. Her mother's absence results in her father's alcohol and drug abuse. He treats her horribly and calls her names she can't seem to forget. Her father lets his friend  play   with her, this means she was sexually abused by him and this friend would pay her father handsomely...

Having spoken up, she regret it speaking about the abuse, because this way her father was sent to jail and so was his friend... saying goodbye to the friend was easier than all the goodbyes I'm her life.

Her aunt leaves and she speaks of being alone and feeling alone. This goodbye is one the that marks the beginning of her loneliness.

Letting go of Daniel was hard, since she knew she would have to eventually be alone again and this is what she feared most because she would be compelled to listen to the voices in her head (not literal voices)  whisper ending it all, dying (suicide)  ... she was afraid she would hurt herself.

She seems to live through the next five years without Daniel and handles better than she'd thought, thanks to Zeke. Her only friend. He makes it bearable for her, it seems.

Zeke passes and once again she feels responsible. She turns to alcohol and becomes unproductive and lonely once again.

She is able to say goodbye to her friend, who she describes to be the final nail to her pain.

The Presley family is merely a reminder of the family she never had, the good she felt she couldn't have and didn't deserve.

The book ends with her taking her life, ending the pain, guilt and regret. She does so knowing exactly what she id doing, she admits that things could get better, she can still save herself bit doesn't want to. She does not want the pity, disgust and does not to live with guilt.
