I got off work that evening, rushing home to shower and get ready. Dante hadn't called this a date, per se, but that's what it felt like to me, and I wanted to make an effort.

"Mia, where are you going now?" My Mom asked as she stepped into my room while I was trying to fix my rebellious wavy hair in the mirror.

"Um, just out." My Mom still had no clue I'd been kicked out of school and to be honest, I had no plans of telling her any time soon. Sure, I probably needed to, but I'd likely end up leaving it until the point where it was too late, or I was forced to tell her. Who could blame me, it wasn't going to be fun and I clearly had more pressing issues, sort of.

"You sure go out a lot these days Mia."

"Yeahhh, you know, fresh air, vitamin D, and it's good for the mind." I tried to twist it into a positive thing, but from the look on my Mom's face she was not buying it. She glanced down at my short black dress, that disapproving Mom look taking over her expression.

"You're wearing that?" She asked. "Who are you going with exactly?"

"Just a friend." Just a criminal friend who just so happens to be running the criminal family that Dad was involved with.

"Who is this friend? You haven't mentioned a boy."

I glanced down at the time on my phone, faking a shocked expression. I was by no means running late, I'd made sure of that, but I needed to get away from my Mom's questions pronto.

"Oh, shit. I'm gonna be late. I'll talk to you later Mom, bye!" I grabbed my things and rushed out the door before my Mom could dig too deep into the whole 'who is the boy' thing.

Dante had given me his number finally, so we could actually communicate like normal people without him having to turn up at my work place all the time. It was starting to get a bit dramatic. I'd texted him to say I was ready after escaping my house and he'd arrived on my street to pick me up.

I got into the car and he gave me a huge grin.

"You look beautiful." The Italian lilt in his velvety smooth voice accentuated the word beautiful, making my cheeks heat up a little. I rolled my eyes at him playfully.

"Thanks Dante, you don't look half bad yourself." Well, that was a lie. Though he didn't need me complimenting him any more than I had considering he already had a huge ego, I'd be lying to myself if I said he 'didn't look half bad'.

He looked far better than 'not bad', he wore his usual crisp white shirt and black slacks, with a black designer blazer and tie. His dark hair looked as if it had recently been cut, the sides were shorter but the top still long. I averted my gaze from him before he noticed me staring.

"So where are we going?" I asked, glancing out of the window and trying to guess.

"You'll see." Was all he replied.

Not that I'd expected him to be taking me to McDonalds, but the place we'd come to looked fancy fancy. Dante drove into a car park full of some very nice looking cars. He pulled up to a white carpet of sorts which was spread in a line leading from the front entrance to the building, down a set of large stone stairs and down to the front of car park. He switched off the engine, stepping out of the car and walking over to my door, opening it for me. Who said chivalry was dead? Even the mob boss had some manners.

I took his hand, stepping out of the car as Dante handed the keys over to a man in what looked like a uniform, giving him a brief instruction in Italian. The man hopped into the car, and I assumed he was going to park it, this was some fancy service, was this what being rich was like? If so, sign me up.
