Taken

BY Anna Desch

Anna’s friend Jaimee’s house wasn’t far from her own house, only about four blocks down from her house.  It was night and the air was cold and stung her nose and eyes.  She tucked her chin under her sweatshirt and headed down the street.  One street lamp was on down at the end of Anna’s street.  She was about halfway there when she heard something behind her, footsteps, she thought.  It was about 11:30 at night, who would be walking home at 11:30 at night, other than a girl going to her friends house for a sleepover, she thought.  She turned back around and hurried.

It was so quiet and gloomy.  The cold air became thick in her lungs and she started to slow down.  What ever was behind her, hopefully wasn’t there anymore.  Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw something run and crouch behind the bushes.  She spun around and froze instantly.  Chills went through her body and made her eyes water. The scariest thing was, there was nothing there when she looked.  Whatever was there, was watching and now it was gone, where did it go?

She started to run faster and faster. In the back of her mind, she knew someone was there and watching her.  She stopped for a breath when it started to rain.  The rain fell harder and harder until she couldn’t even see the end of the street because of the heavy, thick sheet of rain that was falling into the dark and now terrifying night.  She still had a block to go when she realized she had left her cell phone at home.  If anything would happen to her, she had no way to call for help other than to scream and hope someone would hear.  She looked around at the houses around her, no cars were in the driveways and the lights were all out. Suddenly she felt a sharp pain shoot through her shoulder and back.  She fell to the ground with a thump.  As soon as she hit the cold, hard ground, she looked up to see the person or thing that had struck her. her vision was too blurry to make out any faces, but she could tell he was wearing all black.  He was very tall and his body looked unproportioned and lengthy.  He grinned evilly down at her, sending chills scrambling through her body making her whole body shiver uncontrollably.  She wanted to scream, scream so loud that the whole world would hear her, but nothing escaped her lips.  He grabbed her by the hair and pulled her up.

She suddenly felt a fire within her, to fight, to do anything she could to get away, to survive.  She thrashed so violently and she threw punches, but it didn’t seem to faze the man who was going to take her and possibly kill her.  She let out a vigourous scream, louder than anything she’s ever done.  He grabbed her mouth and held it shut.  She could barely breathe, every thought of what he might do to her was rushing through her head.  He hissed in her ear, “Youre mine now”, he said.  Those three words stuck in her mind and hung there like a terrifying nightmare.

Hot tears poured down her cheeks.  suddenly a black van pulled up to the curb.  The door swung open and the mysterious man shoved her inside.  the van and night were both quiet again, except for her heavy breathing and soft whimpers.  The last thing she remembered was the loud creak of the metal van door in the quiet, and now terrifying, night.
