The Chase

By: Shelby Oldfather

“This was a bad idea,” I thought to myself, as I ran into the dark.  The only thing I could see was a dim flickering light, and my own reflection as I stomped through the puddles.  I knew they were hot on my trail. Lets go back to the beginning, how this all started.

It was getting dark and it started to rain while I was walking home.  The street lamps provided just enough light for me to see something I didn't need to see, 2 men wearing ski-masks and all black...robbing a little blue house.

That’s when I got the brilliant idea to yell at them.  “Hey!  What do you think you're doing?!?”  They dropped everything and looked at me.  I glanced at the front yard, there was furniture cluttering it.  Although I was acrossed the street, I could tell that they were both men.  One had blonde hair and the other had black hair.  I blinked a couple of times, gulped, and wished that I would have kept my big mouth shut and quietly called the cops from behind a nearby bush.  Then they started chasing me.

I crossed Main Street right in front of a car.  I did that because I knew they’d have to stop and wait for the car before they could go.  I ran down a dark alley (brilliant idea right?)  The only thing I could see was a dim flickering light, and my own reflection as I stomped through the puddles.  I knew they were hot on my trail, so I knocked over a nearby trashcan.

I was way ahead of them now.  I came to a stop when I realized the alley had come to a dead end, into a brick wall.  They were closing in on me.  So, like any normal person running away from 2 lunatics, I dove into a dumpster to hide from them.

The footsteps stopped.  I heard 2 deep voices.  One said “where’d she go?” the other said “maybe she ran right past us, its too dark to see anything”

And with that, the sound of footsteps got quieter and quieter as they left the alley.  I quietly climbed out of the dumpster (said no one ever.)  I left the alley just in time to see 2 policemen handcuffing 2 men wearing all black.  One of the men being handcuffed had blonde hair and the other had black hair.

When the cop cars drove off, I headed home.  There was a banana peel in my hair and I smelled like trash...eww.  I couldn’t wait to get home after such a bad night.

When I got home, my living room was empty and my front yard was full of furniture.
