The Miami Murder
By Nicole Lowman
The night was young in Miami, Florida. Many younger people went out to go partying but not Britney Cranford. She sat at home alone watching netflix and missing her husband terribly. Britney’s husband was in the army and was currently stationed in Afghanistan. That night she did her usual routine when her husband wasn't home; watching gossip girl on netflix, brushing teeth, washing face, then crawling into her empty bed.
The next morning, she went to the grocery store. When she walked outside the atmosphere felt cold even though the air was hot. She unlocked her car with one push of a button and hopped in. She didn't see as many people outside as she usually saw but, she tried not to think too hard about it. Britney finally got to her destination. When she got inside the store she got all her favorite foods. As she was in line to check out, the newspaper in the rack caught her eye. The face on the front page looked also familiar. It was Britneys husband. The bold words above his picture stated “Miami Murder on the Loose.” The unpaid groceries hit the floor, making a “slap” noise.
The old lady behind Britney asked, “Are you okay, dear?”
But Britney was already out the door before she could even hear the lady’s question. She sprinted to her car and drove home. When she got home Britney went on her husbands computer and searched his history. She could barely believe her eyes when she saw he bought a U.S. army uniform right around the time he was “stationed” in Afghanistan. Warm, salty tears began to escape her eyes. Moments later Britney heard the faint sound of a key rattling in the lock of the front door. Fear overcame Britney’s body because there is only two keys to her house. One was on her nightstand and the other was with her husband.
