Bankole stood at his office window, watching as the ocean communed with land, the waves colliding with the shore in little streams of conversation. To him, it was like a sad love story; madly in love but cannot be together. When he was younger, he wanted to be a pirate. He had dreamt of taking audacious voyages through the world's seas, see the world from a totally different perspective. "Nobody wants to do that anymore these days" his father told him one day as he sat by the beach, watching the sun set beyond the ocean's horizon. His father had better plans anyways. He went on to become a corporate pirate, mega businesses and companies would fall at their feet. They were unstoppable, but this time they might have bitten quite more than they could chew.
"You wanted to see me ?" Kola asked as he walked into the office.
Bankole quickly turned around. "Oh yes I did" he walked to his seat and gestured for kola to have one. "So how do you like your new office? Sorry we couldn't give you one with an ocean view." He asked as he sat down.
"Its completely fine" kola quickly dismissed his apology.."it's more than I could actually ask for"
"And as for your job description, bimbo will fill you in"
Kola paused for a moment as if to ponder on his next words. "I don't think that would be a good idea banks"
"And why is that?" Bankole asked studying him with his eyes.
"I don't know... I told you before, we have history"
"And that history somehow is a hindrance to a professional relationship between the two of you?"
"I think so" there was a lingering pause as bankole kept studying him.. "Look, she hates my guts okay!" Kola said, disgruntledly."What kind of history?" Bankole asked.
"Let's just say we dated a couple of months and I ended it""You guys dated?"
"Yeah"
"You ended it?"
"Yeah.. You seem surprised?" Kola asked.
"Who wouldn't be? If for anything anyone would have thought she ended things with you"
"Well it is what it is" kola shrugged."Why did you end it with her? If you don't mind me asking"
"You seem quite invested in this topic? You like her?" Kola asked, looking at him with suspicious eyes."Maybe"
"Hmmmmm... Well if you must know, I wasn't feeling it anymore"
Bankole sat back in his seat in astonishment. "You ended a relationship with an amazing woman just because you weren't "feeling it?. You amaze me sometimes"
"Its a little too late for regrets now don't you think?" Kola shrugged."Well I don't care how thick the bad blood between you two is, you're going to work out your differences and find a way to work together. You can take this as the first step into a long journey of reconciliation"
"OK fine... Don't say I didn't warn you" kola stood up and proceeded to walk out of the office.
"Wols" bankole called after him as he attempted to open the door.
"Yeah"
"You haven't been mouthing to anyone about our plans with Vancouver have you?"
"No. Why would I do that?"
"Never mind. Just checking"Kola walked out from the elevator into the HR floor rehearsing his opening statement, having a proper conversation with bimbo now was next to impossible. He walked past the staff and greeted with a head gesture. He was about to walk past Fatima when she bellowed from her desk. "Excuse me sir! Can you hold on a minute?" She quickly ran and stood in front of him, smiling awkwardly through her medicated glasses. "I have to let her know you're here before I can let you in"
Kola was taken aback. "I don't understand?"
"Forgive me sir, but the first time you were here I almost lost my job and the second time wasn't so nice either. Otherwise this doesn't concern me, but I still kinda like this job very much."
Kola studied her for a bit. She was confidently cocky, but she wasn't rude. "Fair enough" kola said.. "Let her know I'm here." And with a smile, she turned around and walked into bimbo's office.
She walked out a few seconds later. "You may go in now" she said as she walked back to her desk.
Kola walked into bimbo's office, oblivious of what his opening statement was supposed to be. He finally settled with "hey".
