The drama club had gone on a trip to see a play that Friday, which left Blake Richardson walking home alone after music club.
It seemed like just an average day for Blake as he took his route home. However as Blake was crossing the village bridge with the Blossoms blasting through his headphones he saw someone perched on the edge of the bridge as if they were about to jump.
This wasn't a stranger however. Blake knew this person. Blake knew him as "The idiot who spilt food all over his girlfriend", other typically referred to him as Reece Bibby.
Blake may not like Reece that much but he couldn't let him jump. So he did what anyone would do, he ripped his headphones out of his ears and screamed, "No don't do it!" in order to be heard over the busy traffic.
Reece looked back at the voice he heard screaming at him, and to say he was surprised that Blake Richardson was running towards him was an understatement.
Before Reece could comprehend what Blake had said and have time to disobey what he had said he felt an arm gripping tightly to his wrist, and a dishevelled, heavy breathing Blake in front of his eyes.
"Don't please, it's not worth it!" Blake pleaded tears evident in his eyes.
"How the fuck would know if my life is worth living?!" Reece screamed in Blake's face trying get out of his grip. Wanting nothing than to be falling from the bridge this very moment.
Blake's face softened when he realised that this was indeed true, but he was a firm believer that everyone deserved to live, and that life is precious and shouldn't be taken from anyone which is why he pressed on. "What about your parents?"
"They always wanted a girl and now they have one. Have done for years so why bother?" Reece snapped despite the tears streaming from his eyes.
"Well then what about your sister won't she care?" Blake presses on determined to find something to make Reece stay.
"She's too young to care" Reece quickly dismissed.
"What about when she grows up and learns she used to have a brother. A brother that she never got a chance to play with, to fight with or a brother to fight her bullies for her or threaten her boyfriends. Do you want that for her?" Blake was practically sobbing by now.
Reece face softened at Blake's words realising that they were indeed true and that he didn't want that for Lexi. But instead of accepting that he changed the subject "Why the fuck do you care all of a sudden?" Reece was raging with anger at this point. Just wanting life to end. Trying to fight Blake's death grip.
"Because nobody deserves to die Reece. And nobody deserves to live a crappy life. I just want to help." Blake said lowering his voice so that they weren't shouting anymore. He had also loosened his grip on Reece's wrist so that he could decide.
Luckily Reece began turning around to get off the edge of the bridge and Blake started helping him down. They were so close that they could feel each other's breath mingling together. At this point both debated leaning in and kissing each other. However this did not happen. Partly because Reece was certain that Blake hated him and partly because Blake had remembered he had a girlfriend and he wasn't about to cheat on her. He couldn't do that to her, he's not that type of person.
These newfound feeling confused Blake, he'd never felt like this with anyone let alone with a guy he didn't really know not even five minutes ago.
They stepped away from each other and mumbled incoherent apologies to each other, before they began to walk home.
When they had both realised that they were heading the same way they ended up walking in silence for a couple of minutes before Reece couldn't help but blurt out the question that was burning in his mind. "Why'd you do it? I thought you hated me."
"What? Why the fuck would I hate you?" Blake questioned.
"I don't know maybe you screaming, 'Why the fuck would you do that you bastard' and 'You better stay the fuck away from her' were pretty good indicators that you hated me" Reece argued.
"Shit. I said that didn't I? Look, I didn't mean it and I was having a pretty shitty day anyway, so Bailee having food spilt over her was the final straw I guess..." There was a pause where Blake was thinking before he realised something, "Wait? Was that one of the reasons you were going to jump?" Blake's voice cracked towards the end, guilt eating him up when he realised that he could be a reason that Reece wanted to jump.
"Probably? Maybe? I don't even fucking know anymore. I just know there was no point in me carrying on." Reece sighed.
"Wha-what are you going to do now?" Blake's voice was unsteady clearly showing he was upset.
"Probably just go back to my miserable life with you watching me like a hawk making sure that I haven't killed myself. Right?" Reece sighed.
Blake stopped abruptly which caught Reece off guard causing him to turn around and look at Blake.
"No." Blake muttered.
"What?" Reece strained to hear him.
"No." Blake said clearer ensuring that Reece had heard.
"No what?" Reece asked confused.
"You're not just going to go back to your old and miserable life Reece. I can't let you do that." Blake said determination present in his voice.
"Yeah well what am I going to do Blake?! I can't exactly change my life can I?!" Reece exclaimed.
"You could hang out with me in school so you're not lonely." Blake suggested.
"Really? What about your other friends?" Reece enquired.
"They'll be fine trust me." Blake said.
They then began walking home again in silence and only spoke when they reached Reece's house.
"Well I suppose I'll see you Monday then?" Blake said.
"Yeah I'll see you then" Reece said with a hint of hope in his voice. The first time he's felt hope in years.
Yay finally a slightly longer chapter! Should I do more irl chapters?
Until next time
