What the night brings

Every night brings dreams
Even if that dream is only of sleep
Some dreams are good
But not all

Some bring back terror
Leaving us shaking in sweats
Some bring us joy
A smile carved into a motionless face

Some nights the inky dream we have is to sleep
Some nights we lie awake
Petrified of what the night brings
The uncertainty
That's what creates fear
The hope that it's not real
No longer strong enough

We try with all we can to keep control
But it is impossible
How can you have control if you are not even awake?
How can you protect yourself from what the night brings?
The monsters and fears
The memories and horror
The things suppressed deep inside
All risen by the night
This is what the night brings
