Derek's POV

My heart was pounding harder than it ever had before. I wasn't nervous or scared when I was with Reid, I was just totally in love with him. Being with him made me feel so good like nobody or anything had ever made me feel. He went to the cafe because it reminded him of me. His body language said it all. He was too nervous to talk to me, which was why he only stared at me, without opening his mouth at all.

Only a couple of minutes after we ordered, the waitress came back with our coffee. Reid replied with a "thanks" and immediately put his lips to the cup with an adorable look on his face as he did so.

"Careful there, Reid. You don't want to get a sugar rush," I said, not being able to help the smile that crept across my face.

"Derek," He stated, setting down the cup. "In all of the years we've known each other, have you ever seen me get a sugar rush?"

   He had me there.

"No, but we're not starting now. Just slow down."

He gave me a smirk but didn't pick up the cup again. There was so much that I wanted to say at that moment but I kept it to myself. We weren't really alone and that was how I wanted it to be. But none of that kept me from thinking about him, even though he was right in front of me.

"Who's staring now?" He asked, laughing at me.

I rolled my eyes at his question and sipped my coffee, normally.

"Hey, Derek, I'm sorry that I haven't called or anything. I didn't know what to say, if I did. To be honest, it felt like we left on awkward terms and I was a little confused," Reid apologized after a second.

I tilted my head at him, a little unsure why he was apologizing.

"You don't have to be sorry, Kid. I'm not mad."

"I know, I just didn't want you to get mad since I didn't say anything. I wanted to let you know that."

His way of talking always made my heart melt. I smiled a little bit at the adorable person in front of me. He glanced at me, but after a second his eyes looked down again, not wanting to meet my gaze.

"It's okay. But, now that we're here..." He looked at me as my voice trailed off. "Do you want to go somewhere?"

"Like a date?" He asked, nonchalant.

"If you want it to be." I smiled.

He looked around as if someone was eavesdropping and then checked his watch.

"Sure, I guess I don't have anything better to do."

He immediately picked up his coffee cup and chugged it. I only stared in amazement. How old was this kid? I laughed and then sipped my coffee until I was done with it. As we paid and got up, Reid turned to me and asked,

"So, do you want me to ride with you or-?"

"You can drop your car off at your house and then you can ride with me," I replied.
