"... and congratulations to all of our new officers!" the announcer concluded. He had been droning on and on about what an honor it was to serve and all of the hardships we had faced in our training. That's right. I (Y/n) Ray had finally finished my training to become an officer. I had always dream of a future helping others and a life filled with action. Now that I'm officially a cop, that dream is becoming a reality.
After the ceremony, all of the newly graduated cops, including myself, left the stage and went to pick up our badges. After waiting in a seemingly endless line, I finally approached the table with all of the new officers' badges.
"Name please," my instructor droned.
"(Y/n) Ray, sir!"
"Oh, Ray, congrats! Y'know," he lowered his voice," you were always my favorite trainee. Being the top of your class will get you far Officer Ray. I wish you the best of luck!" he said with a hearty smile while handing me my badge.
"Thank you, sir," I said, grabbing my badge and walking away. After turning the corner, I practically ran to the reception area and spotted my mother, father, and boyfriend across the room. I made my way to them and we shared a group hug.
"I'm so proud of you, Honey," my mother said with tears in her eyes. My father looked at me and started sobbing.
"D-dad," I stuttered out. I was taken aback by my fathers sudden reaction, after all, I've only seen him cry a few times in my life.
"I-I'm sorry, Sweetie, i-it's just that, well, my B-babygirl is all g-grown up now."
"Oh, Dad. I'll always be you're Babygirl." I embraced him for what seemed like an eternity.
"Ahem."
I left my fathers warm embrace and turned to my high school sweetheart, Charles West. He held out a large boutique of bright red roses. I gently took them from him with a gracious smile on my face and pecked his cheek.
"So," he started," are you ready for the flight?"
My parents beamed at me, as did Charles.
"Are you kidding, I've been waiting for this flight my entire life."
...
Charles and I had started off as enemies in high school, but with some help from our friends, our hate for each other quickly turned into adoration. We lived in a small town and decided what we wanted our careers to be right after we graduated high school. Charles had gone to a trade school to become a mechanic while I had attended the police academy. We both decided that our chosen careers would be better off in a large, populated city which meant that we had to move. So, we decided to take the first plane to Evergreen State as soon as I graduated. My parents drove us to the airport with our carry-ons (most of our luggage had already been transported to our new apartment) and they wished us good luck as we departed to find our terminal.
"I still can't believe we're doing this!"
"Believe it, Baby, because in 3 hours, our lives will change for the better," Charles responded.
Soon after we boarded our plane and began the 3 hour flight that would land us in the heart of Evergreen State.
...
About a week had gone by since we arrived in Evergreen State and Charles and I had moved into our cramped apartment building. Charles was able to easily find a job in a mechanic shop close to our apartment and I had been hired almost immediately by the Metroplis Police Department. I was ecstatic and I was even able to work undercover; it was my first choice of unit to work in. My current case was about a high-end businessman who had been sexually harassing his female workers. My job was to get a position working for the businessman and catch him in the act. This, however, was easier said than done. I had been interviewed a few different times and was ultimately rejected because I "looked too young to be allowed to work in the building" and "it would be a legal hazard to have me working."
I reported this to my captain who simply sighed and said, "I figured something like this might happen."
"What do you mean by that, Captain?"
"Well, about a year ago, I had another officer who was in a similar situation to yours. He has a young looking face and we was never taken seriously by criminals. This was dangerous for him and his partner."
"So, what happened to him, Captain?"
"I told him that he could do desk work until he looked old enough to be taken seriously-"
"WHAT," I practically screamed," Captain, I can not do desk work for 10 or so years. I was top of my class at the academy and I was specifically trained in undercover work."
"I know, Ray, I know. But, you didn't let me finish."
"...oh."
"Here in Metropolis, we have a special undercover unit full of cops who look very young. They make up the Jump Street Chapel program. The program allows these young looking cops to enter into schools around the area and arrest dangerous kids."
"Dangerous kids?"
"Kids who deal drugs, steal, rape, and murder. After all, the criminals we lock up have to start somewhere, don't they?"
"You're right, sir. Do you think that I could be a part of this program. I mean, do I really look young enough?"
"(Y/n), you look like a high school junior, I'm sure Jump Street would love to have an exceptional officer like you working with them. So, what do you say? Are you in?"
"Absolutely."
