Ayla
It's a Sunday, I’m working alone at My Place today. We’re only open till three in the afternoon, So I don't mind working on a weekend as the pay is good and obviously the bakery slash cafe is my favorite place to be.
There's a steady stream of customers now and again, but Sunday in our town mostly consists of everyone being at the local park where the community gathers and have one huge picnic.
I'll probably catch up with my family later as they must be already at the park, no doubt enjoying the lovely weather and catching up with our neighbours.
I've just bought out a batch of freshly baked cookies from the oven when I hear the bell above the door go. I look up to see a boy no older than maybe seven or eight walk in.
He’s a cute little thing, his black hair is styled to the side and as he comes near ,I see he has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen, aside from James’s of course.
Shaking my head to deter my train of thought I waited until he reached the counter. I smile down at him and he instantly smiles back and I see a little indent appear in his left cheek.
“Hi.” I look up to the door, waiting for the adult who must have accompanied him for he’s way too young to be out on his own and as we live in a small town I can tell he’s not from around here.
“Hi.” he replies back with another cute smile. Then he looks down at the counter and his eyes travel over the variety of cakes on display.
“Are you on your own?”. I now look at the boy with concern, surely he must belong to someone.
“No. My uncle is not far behind, but he has my sister to deal with as she's throwing one of her hissy fits.” I stifle down a laugh at his comment.
“Okay. Well my name is Ayla. What's yours.” I came around the counter and walked up to the door. I opened it and peered out.
“My name is Zakaria but you can call me Zack”. He then continues to eye the cakes. I smile at the look on his face. I bet he has a sweet tooth. The way he’s eying the cakes suggests he can't wait to devour one.
I close the door and make my way back around the counter.
“So what will it be Zack?”
“I have to wait till my uncle comes as I don't have any money on me.'' The look on his cute face tells me he can't wait for his uncle to appear.
“It's on the house. So choose one, go on.” he looks up at me in surprise.
“Really!”. I nod my head in reply, smiling.
“No, I can't, my uncle will not be happy. I'll wait.'' He looks unhappy as he turns and walks back to the door waiting for his uncle no doubt.
I grab a tong and a small plate and pick up a slice of rainbow cake that's a hit with the kids. I put it on the plate and made my way towards the Zack.
I put the plate down the table nearest the window and turning to him I put my hand on his shoulder guiding him to the table. He follows me silently and when he sees the cake on the plate he looks up at me with a dimpled smile.
“Now sit and enjoy and leave your uncle to me.” I give him a fork and a drink and turn back to the counter to put the cookies on the shelf.
A minute later the bell goes and enters a man with a sleeping child in his arms, his eyes are frantic but when it lands Zack a look of relief washes over his face.
I see him walk towards Zack and then seeing the booth nearby he gently lays the sleeping child there. He then walks up to Zack who is happily eating his cake.
