Pain surged through Melody's leg. It took one slip for her to fall behind the couch, she was lucky she didn't die but her leg was totally broken! She tried to hobble out but the space between the wall and couch was too narrow to move at all. Hours passed and Melody had to face reality, she wasn't gonna get out of here unless she called out for help.
The only problem was that Jimmy would be the only one to hear her. Melody had been trying to avoid him for a while now, he seemed pretty annoyed with her the last time they interacted, would he even be willing to help her now?
Footsteps rumbled through the house. If she was going to call out for help, now would be the time. But she couldn't help but shiver with each step from memories that haunted her past. Maybe, trying to talk to him wouldn't be a good idea.
When Melody heard Jimmy walk into the room, her heart skipped a beat. It sounded like he was looking for something, could he be looking for her? No, he promised he wouldn't bother her anymore. Why was she debating whether or not to call out for help?
The sound of his footsteps started to head towards the other room. If she let him go now, she could be stuck here all night! Was her fears really worth that?
Before he could leave, Melody took a deep breath. "Help."
For a moment, she thought he didn't hear him but then the rumbling of the ground suddenly stopped.
"Melody?"
"Y….Yes. I'm stuck…. Behind the couch."
Jimmy inched closer. "How'd you do that?"
"I fell." Melody replied. "Can you help me?"
"Of course!" Jimmy quickly moved forward and then pulled the black sofa away from the wall and his shadow swallowed the tiny girl. His blue eyes landed on her broken leg that was twisted inward. "Oh shit, your leg!"
"It'll be fine once I can get home."
"How can you even do that when you can't walk?"
"You think this is the first time I've broken a bone here?" She spat out.
"Okay, but that was before I knew there were little people living in my apartment, so come here." His hand reached out for Melody despite her protests and gently wrapped around her. Then he moved her over to the small table that was by the couch and placed her on it.
Melody crossed her arms. "All I wanted was for you to move the couch."
Jimmy rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah, I get it, you don't want my help but too bad you're gonna get it today." He began to examine her twisted leg, trying to figure out how to fix it. "Okay, I'll be back, please don't try and go anywhere."
Melody watched Jimmy stand to his full height and head into the kitchen. This was bullshit, letting a bean help fix her leg. This was against everything she stood for, Melody would have climbed off this table and left…. If her leg wasn't broken.
Jimmy strolled back in jumbling supplies in hand and sprawled them out on the table. Oddly enough he had a can of beer and a bottle cap with the supplies. But before she could even ask about that Jimmy's fingers drew close to her leg.
"Listen, I'm gonna need to snap your leg back into place."
"What?!"
"Well, your leg is not gonna heal with your bones outta place."
"I'm not letting you do that!" Melody snapped. "You might make it worse!"
"Would you rather me take you to a doctor?"
Melody's eyes widened, no he wouldn't do that to her! But looking up at him revealed the serious look he had on his face. Melody vigorously shook her head, the last thing she wanted to deal with was more beans.
Jimmy smiled in triumph. "Thought so."
Melody bit her lip as Jimmy's fingers grazed against her broken limb. Surprisingly, he was very gentle about it.
"Do you trust me?"
"Not really."
Jimmy locked eyes with Melody. "I'm not gonna hurt you."
Melody could only give him an unsure nod and close her eyes. Pressure pressed onto her bone, she resisted the urge to jerk her leg away. The pain was starting to feel unbearable, then with a loud snap, her bone shifted. Melody yelled out in pain, but the pain slowly began to fade. She opened her eyes and saw her leg was back in place. She couldn't believe it, the son of a bitch actually did it!
"Don't move!" Jimmy said, grabbing the small sized popsicle sticks that looked to be cut down to size. However, they were stained with an orange tint. "Don't worry, I washed them."
The cold wood pressed against each side of Melody's leg, then Jimmy grabbed some tape and began wrapping it around her leg, keeping the sticks in place.
"There." Jimmy smiled. "Not bad, considering I have literally no medical experience whatsoever."
"Th...thank you."
"Anything for a friend."
Melody's face scrunched up. "I'm not your friend."
Jimmy just chuckled. "Whatever you say, roommate."
Melody rolled her eyes. "I need to get back home."
"Oh hold on, I wanted to give you something." He grabbed that can of beer and poured a little bit in the plastic bottle cap. "Here you go."
"You're giving me alcohol?"
"I figured you would need it after all that."
Melody shrugged and took a sip, she couldn't argue with that logic.
"So, are you sure you can make it back to your home by yourself?"
"Yes Jimmy." Melody sighed. "Besides, you wouldn't be able to reach my home."
Jimmy chuckled. "What do I gotta do, rip the floorboards apart to get there?"
Melody tightened her lips.
"Oh so that's where you live! I didn't realize you lived so close to me."
"Don't you even think about trying to find out where I live!" She snapped.
"Oh relax, I'm not gonna tear apart my living room just to knock on your door." Jimmy took a sip of the beer. "Just as long as you don't do anything stupid while your leg is broken."
"Oh don't worry, I won't." Unfortunately, by asking for a bean's help, Melody had already done the stupidest thing a borrower could do.
