Taylor's POV

The car ride to the ice cream parlor was filled with us telling each others likes and dislikes and generally getting to know each other. I was getting more and more intrigued by Ellie by the minute. There's just something about her but I just couldn't put my finger on it. She's seemed like a closed book and really apprehensive towards a lot of things. But there was one thing that was playing on my mind. The black eye. Who gave it to her? Was it the snobby girls.. they seemed like the people who would do that. Or Linda, especially after what she said about Ellie in her office. Either way, I just feel I have to ask, as if it's my duty to protect her.

"Hey, Ellie?"

"Yeah?"

"Um.. what happened to your eye?" I asked.

She looked scared, like she didn't want to tell me.

"I, I'm a bit clumsy, I um, I fell over at school today." She nervously laughed. I knew it wasn't the truth. I didn't want to push her to tell me, but I so badly wanted to help her.

"Now I know that's not the truth. You can tell me anything you know. In your own time too."

"Thank you." she smiled back at me.

Shortly after, we arrived at the ice cream parlor. We took our seats at the back where we wouldn't be seen and looked at the menus in front of us. Ellie looked through it, her eyes lighting up at things she obviously liked the sound of.

"You can order whatever and how ever much you like!" I smiled

"Really?!" she seemed surprised.

"Of course. Why are you so surprised?"

"Please don't laugh...or think I'm weird..."

"I won't." I smiled.

"I've never actually had ice cream before."

"Well, you're gonna love it!" I giggled.

Ellies's POV

I felt quite embarrassed when I told Taylor that I've never had ice cream before, like basically every teenager my age has had it. I've always been deprived of such luxuries. Either money problems... or other problems.

I kept looking through the menu and everything I read just sounded so nice. They even done warm waffles here, and crêpes, sundaes, all sorts. I could feel myself building up quite an appetite.

"Are you ready to order?" Taylor asked me.

"Um, yeah I think so." I tried to smile but my eye was still causing me so much pain.

"What are you having?"

"Um, I'll have the strawberry, nutella and Oreo crêpe with the vanilla ice cream please."

"Okay, I'll just go up and order now."

"Okay, thankyou." I tried to smile again. Damn this eye was painful.

*

Me and Taylor had just finished our crêpes, she had the same as me. It was literally the best thing I've ever had. The chocolate was melted over the strawberries and crushed oreos, along with creamy vanilla ice cream on the side. I've never enjoyed eating something so much. Me and Taylor really got to know each other, but I already knew loads about her anyway. I told her how she's the reason I started playing the guitar and that I sometimes write my own songs. I didn't go into detail about other things, I didn't bring any of it up, I tried to keep it a positive conversation. I just had this feeling that Taylor wanted to know the truth about my eye.

"I guess I should tell you." I said after taking a sip of Pepsi.

"About what sweetie?"

"My eye... I didn't trip at school. There's um, there's a group of girls, two of them live at the children's home too.. anyway, they, they bully me. But when I left school today they took the pushing and shoving to another level. They waited for me at the gates, they beat me up. They've been bullying me ever since I started the school. I never said anything to them, they just took a disliking to me." I held back the tears that were threatening to fall.

Taylor shifted over towards me and hugged me tight. She whispers soothing words to me and strokes up and down my arm as I try to compose myself.

"Does Linda know?"

"She knows they bully me, but she doesn't know they beat me up today."

"Has she not said anything to the school about the bullying?"

"No." I said shakily. "She said she doesn't care and that I'm just apparently lying. She doesn't like me anyway, she prefers all them pretty popular girls because they'll get further in life." I wipe my eyes trying my absolute hardest not to cry.

"Now that's not true. Success isn't based on looks. You value everything in life I can tell. You'll get so much further in life than they ever will because they have to live with the fact they're bullies. Come on, let's go." Taylor stood up and took my hand.

"Where?"

"We're going back to the home and I'm gonna have some words with Linda!"

Taylor sounded really angry, I've never heard or seen this side off her. But I could only guess it's not a good thing.
