Taylor's POV
"What's wrong sweetie?" I asked Ellie.
"I- I just... everything." She sighed while crying.
I opened my arms inviting her in for a hug. She looked at me and seemed apprehensive at first about hugging me. But a few seconds later she collapsed into my arms and continued crying.
I rubbed her back and softly rocked her side to side to try and calm her down. Ellie really did intrigue me I wanted to find out more abour her, obviously I wasn't expecting her to tell me every single detail of her life.
Her crying died down and she looked back up at me, her eyes red and puffy. Smudged mascara down her cheek.
No wait. That's not mascara. That's a black eye. What on earth happened to her? Was it someone here? Or at school...
She looked me in the eye and could see me looking at her black eye. Her body language suddenly becoming uncomfortable. I had to somehow break the silence but I didn't want to ask her just yet.
"Do you wanna come get some ice cream with me?" I smiled hopefully.
"Um. I- yeah sure." she softly smiled. "I just need to, um, go and sort myself out."
"Ok, I'll go down and speak to Linda." I smiled back.
I left the room and went down to Linda's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Linda looked up and smiled as I walked over to her desk.
"Found a child?"
"Yes. Ellie."
"Oh."
"Is there a problem with that?" I questioned, intruiged by her disappointment when I said Ellie.
"She's a bit of a troubled, problem child. She's not good with the other children here and often gets into scraps with the other girls. Her mental health isn't exactly stable, which isn't an easy for an adoptive parent to handle. You would be much better off picking another girl, one of the prettier more sensible ones."
I felt disgusted that she would say such things. No one should be judged by their mental health. Never.
"Well I pick Ellie. She deserves someone who will love and care for her. She's a beautiful talented girl, and I'm sure there are reasons for her behaviour. No one should be outed because of their mental state."
"Ok you can take her out a few times first before you confirm your decision. But if you go through with it then it'll be your mistake."
With that, I got up and left the room to see Ellie waiting outside with a glint of sadness in her eyes.
"It's okay. You don't have to take me out. I'm ugly. And like those girls just said, you don't really want me." she sighed sadly.
"Sweetie that's not true. You're beautiful ok. And why did those girls say that?"
"I don't know. I was just waiting her and they asked why I was just stood here... I told them you were here and they called me a loony and that even if you did come here, you wouldn't be coming here for me as I'm much too ugly for someone as pretty as you."
"Do not for one second believe that. It's not true. I used to be bullied by snotty girls too, you're not alone and you never will be. Now, shall we go for that ice cream?" I smiled at her.
"Yeah." She said, returning the smile, the smile that was clearly forced and fake. I hope one day I can make Ellie smile and mean it.
A/N This is so short I know, but the other chapters are gonna be much longer, they've already been written too.
