~Nikki~
The next day I came home after taking a walk. I went to my room to find a card on my bed. I picked up it.
Nicole Fudo,
You have been selected to take part in the new tournament formerly known as Battle City tournament. Be at the Town Square at nine PM to away further instruction.
It wasn't signed which is odd, but I knew who it was from. Seto, I really hope you know what you're doing. I then made my way to the Town Square with Yami who also received the same card. There we saw Tea who Yami had been hanging out with all day.
"The invitation said the tournament would be announced tonight, Ishizu was right," Tea confirmed.
"I don't know if everything she said is true, but I do know this, I must enter and win this tournament in order to fulfill my destiny," Yami told us.
"Just promise you'll be careful, Yami. There's still danger ahead for us both," I said. He nodded.
"Yes, whoever is after our Millennium Items is still out there," Yami took out his deck. "But you must trust me, Nikki. This deck has never let me down before, as long as Yugi and I stay connected, I'm confident that we can win this tournament, unlock the memories of my past and realize our destiny," he said to me. I smiled a little and saw Yugi appear beside Yami with a nod while smiling.
"And you can count on my help," Tea smiled.
"Me too, brother," I smiled. All of a sudden I heard a manic laugh. I turned and looked around.
"Did you hear it too?" Yami asked me. I nodded at him.
"Hey, what's the matter? Is everything okay?" Tea asked us.
"Yes, Tea. It was nothing," I told her. She was about to retort until...
"Yugi! Nikki! There you are!" We heard. We turned and saw our friend Mai heading over.
"It's Mai Valentine," Yami stated. I smiled.
"I was hoping we'd get to see that girl," I said.
"Oh joy," Tea said sarcastically. She walked up to us.
"I know you guys missed me," she smiled at us.
"It's such a shame we don't hand around more often, Mai," I told her. She smirked.
"Yes, it is, isn't it?" She asked. She wrapped an around Tea's neck. "You look pretty snazzy, Tea. Is this a date?" Mai winked. I stifled a giggle.
"We're just friends, Mai," Tea told her.
"I assume you've come here for the tournament?" Yami asked Mai trying to change the subject.
"But of course! I presume you both got an invitation also?" She asked me and Yami.
"Yes, we did, but they didn't say who they were from. Do you know who's hosting this tournament?" Yami asked her.
"I have no idea, it's a mystery. Nobody seems to know, everyone I spoke to go anonymous, but there is a buzz going around that it's someone with a tone of cash and an obnoxious attitude. I'd guess Kaiba," she told us. I knew that.
"That must be why Ishizu wanted me to enter!" Yami said.
"What are you mumbling about? Anyway, nobody knows for sure who it is that's throwing this thing" Mai continued.
"I suppose we'll find out soon," Yami said.
"It's pretty safe to say it's not Pegasus again," Mai told us.
"You'll be surprised," I mumbled.
"You know, Nik?" Yami asked me. I nodded.
"Yeah...you'll see soon. Just to let you know, I was surprised I was asked to join," I stated. I then shivered. "I hope it's nothing like Pegasus' tournament," I said. Yami nodded.
"Speaking of Pegasus, this is beginning to look like Duelist Kingdom all over again," Yami said. I nodded.
"I know what you mean. There are a lot of familiar faces in the crowd. Most of them whom I'm not too happy to see," I said. I looked around and groaned. Tea followed.
"You're right. That's Weevil Underwood and Rex Raptor," she pointed out.
"And over there is Espa Roba, they say he uses psychic powers to duel," Mai informed.
"And Meko's here too," I said as I saw Meko eating fish.
"If what Mai said earlier is correct, then this tournament is going to have one new recruit," Yami pointed out. I looked up and sighed.
"And there he is now," I pointed. Everyone looked up and saw Seto on the big screen.
"Kaiba," Yami agreed.
"Greetings Duelists, welcome to the town of Domino, but more importantly, welcome to my tournament," Seto told everyone.
"I don't know which is bigger, his ego or the melon on the big screen," Mai said to me. I giggled.
"Most likely both," I told her.
"Let's hear what Kaiba has to say," Yami told us.
"I see you've all received your invite to Kaiba Corps very exclusive Duel Monsters tournament and you had enough brains to show up here tonight. Since you're all elite Duelists, I've added special rules to my tournament, just for experts. For example, you will duel using these new improved Duel Disks," Set told everyone. It's then the camera showed Seto's arm which was equipped with a silver and blue duel disk There were five slots for monsters cards, five slots for magic and strap cards, and a slot for the graveyard pile.
"Check that out!" I heard someone say.
"Man, that Kaiba Corps got the coolest products!" I heard another say.
"Another new rule I designed for the tournament, is that both players must ante up their rarest card, and the loser of the duel forfeits the card to the winner," Seto added. I gasped.
"What?!" I said horrified. Lose my Slifer the Sky Dragon?!
"Forfeit my Dark Magician?!" Yami said in the same tone.
"That means that even a single loss could ruin my deck," Mai stated.
"My competition will make Pegasus' Duelist Kingdome look like a joke," Seto said. The wind picks up making as all turn to see Kaiba choppers and Seto stood leaning out of one. "Don't forget to register and pick up your Duel Disk, because exactly one week from today, my Battle City tournament begins!" Seto announced.
"You're on, Kaiba!" Yami called out. I nodded. Seto and the choppers then left. Now everyone was excited. Yami and I then made our way home. "Nik, are you okay?" Yami asked me. I shook my head.
"Just worried I guess," I said.
"About?" He asked wanting me to clarify.
"If I lose a duel...then I'll lose Slifer the Sky Dragon. I can't lose him, brother. He's too important to me," I said looking at my card.
"Hey, no one really knows about your Slifer card accept for our friends and Pegasus. And Pegasus has disappeared," Yami said trying to comfort me. I smiled a little.
"I just hope I don't lose him. And if Seto finds out I have Slifer..."I trailed off.
"You think he's after the Egyptian God Cards?" Yami asked. I was shocked.
"H-how did you...?"
"Tea and I met Ishizu and she told us about them," he told me. I nodded.
"Good, I was planning on telling you after your little date," I smirked making him blush a little.
"It wasn't a date, Nik," he told me in a stern tone. I just chuckled.
"Whatever you say, brother. So, what did Ishizu tell you?" I asked.
"That I have a destiny to defeat a great evil. According to her, the Princess is also destined to help in some way. Nik, do you know...?"
"That I'm the reincarnation of Princess Naira? Yup. I've known since Duelist Kingdom actually. I just didn't know about my destiny part," I stated. Yami nodded. The next day at school I, Yugi, Tea, Joey, and Tristen were on the roof. We then told them about Seto's tournament.
"You can't be serious! You mean to tell me that rich punk Kaiba is throwing his own exclusive Duel Monsters tournament?!" Joey asked.
"Yep," Yugi and I agreed.
"And the whole thing kicks off in less than a week," I stated. I knew Joey wasn't going to be happy that he wasn't invited...turns out I was right.
"I can't believe moneybags didn't send an invite to me! I was of the runners up at Duelist Kingdom! Where's the respect?!" Joey asked.
"Here's a newsflash for you, Joey; Kaiba doesn't like you," Tristen stated.
"I'll give him something not to like!" Joey retorted.
"Ya know, this is exactly how he wants you to react," Tristen pointed out. Joey calmed.
"Ya got a good point there, Tristen. Maybe I don't need to enter Kaiba's snooty competition. What about you two? Are you going to enter the tournament?" Joey as me and Yugi.
"I have to. I just found out that entering Kaiba's Battle City Tournament is the only way I can achieve my destiny," Yugi answered.
"Ya destiny? What are you talking about?" Joey asked.
"It's kind of a long story," I told him.
"I've got nowhere to go," Joey countered. Yugi and I shared a look before nodding to each other. We then looked back at Joey.
"Alright, some kind of evil force is coming back from the past and I'm destined to join this tournament and defeat it," Yugi said.
"And I'm entering because I'm destined to help him," I added.
"Yeah, well, I'm destined to help and I've got just the card. I'm talking about Red Eyes Black Dragon!" Joey said pulling his card out.
"So what you're saying is you've changed your mind again, you are going to enter Kaiba's tournament," Tristen stated.
"That's what I'm saying alright. Yugi and Sera have inspired me and with this baby in my deck, I got it made," Joey kissed his Red Eyes card. "Isn't that right, my little Red Eyes? Who's going to help me kick some Kaiba butt? What's that matter? Never seen a guy kiss a card?" Joey asked as we all looked nauseated.
"I love my deck...but I would never do that," I told him.
"Well, anyway, my Red Eyes will put Kaiba to shame," Joey said.
"Didn't you learn the last time you dueled Kaiba?" Tea piped up.
"Tea's right, Joey. Your Red Eyes is a powerful card, but it doesn't guarantee that you'll beat Kaiba," Yugi agreed.
"Yeah, you've got a point," Joey admitted.
"You just need to have a little patience. First you should get used to his more advanced version of the Duel Disk," I stated.
"The old ones were too advanced for me. They cost me the duel," Joey retorted. I then remembered that duel when we saw Seto for the first time on the island.
"You're a much better duelist now than you were then, Joey, but before you jump right into another duel with Kaiba, you should practice with the new Duel Disk," Yugi advised.
"Then what are we waiting for? I gotta try and enter this!" Joey said before trying to run off. I sighed.
"We're doomed," I mumbled as Yugi patted my shoulder. After school I changed into a blue shirt that reached my elbows, black shorts with a belt that had my dueling deck pouch on it. Black leggings that went up to my thigh, blue boots, a black jean jacket, black fingerless gloves, the necklace Seto gave me, and my Millennium Bracelet. Yugi and I the met up with the others to go sign up. Yugi and Tea held back for a moment but I went in with the others. It wasn't long until Joey called them over impatiently. We then walked up to the desk.
"May I be of some assistance?" The man asked.
"Hi, we're here to register for the Battle City Tournament and get our Duel Disks," Yugi told him.
"Well then, my friends, you have entered into the right place. You're fortunate as I've only three Duel Disks left on my shelf, but first, I have to make sure you're qualified to enter," the man told us.
"Okay, I'm Yugi Moto," Yugi told him.
"Alright, Yugi Moto," the man said entering the name. "Not bad, you've got five stars. That's the highest rank," he commented.
"Where does this information come from?" Yugi asked. Very good question.
"I'm guessing Kaiba Corp would look into all of the duelists around the city and collect all the data so that they can determine the ranks of everyone," I answered.
"You're quite right, my dear. Here, this shows your skill level and the rarest card you've ever played in a duel," the man said. He then showed the screen which showed Yami and the Dark Magician with five stars underneath. I started to panic. What if people show that my rarest card is Slifer? If I lose him, I don't know what I'll do! "To ensure that only the best duelists enter, Mr. Kaiba has gone to great lengths to learn everything about you and your decks," the man added. We all gasped.
"Everything? Knowing everything in our decks gives an unfair disadvantage to Kaiba," Yugi stated. That means, Seto might know about Slifer!
"That's not cool," Tea agreed. I nodded.
"You're telling me," I agreed next.
"Well, as promised, since you're qualified to enter, you get this," the man grabbed a Duel Disk. "Kaiba Corps new and improved Duel Disk system," he added handing it to Yugi. It was bigger than Yugi...poor guy.
"Awesome, thank you," Yugi said. Joey pushed Yugi out of the way to get to the counter.
"I wanna register as well, Joey Wheeler's the name," Joey told the man.
"Let me see, Joey Wheeler," the man typed the name in. "Hm, I'm sorry, you've only got one star. You're ranking is much too low to enter," the man said. I winced...not good. Seto, you idiot!
"What?! That can't be! Kaiba fixed those results! I came in third in the Duelist Kingdom!" Joey exclaimed. Tristen grabbed him.
"Hey, Joey! Just calm down!" Tristen told him. Joey didn't listen. "Stop having a cow!"
"It is weird that he doesn't qualify," Tea noted.
"He's gonna burst a blood vessel!" Tristen said.
"Joey! Please, just calm down!" I pleaded.
"I can't believe he did this," Joey said calming down a little.
"There's got to be an explanation..."I trailed off.
"I'm sorry, Joey. It seems my hard drive was malfunctioning and that you actually have four stars. Congratulation, you qualify," the man said. We all looked in shock.
"Yeah! I knew it! Let me those beautiful stars!" Joey said. The screen was turned showing Joey and his Red Eyes Black Dragon with four stars underneath. "Hey, my kisser ain't looking too bad either. I knew the computer was wrong, that's how I was able to relax and keep my cool while he fixed it," Joey said. I raised an eyebrow with and amused look.
"Oh yeah. That was you keeping your cool? I can't wait to see you lose your cool then," I joked.
"Best of luck," the man said handing Joey a Duel Disk.
"Come to papa!" Joey happily took it. I smiled shaking my head at him. I then looked at the man as I stepped up next.
"Hi, my name is Nicole Fudo and I'd like to sign up please," I smiled.
"Alright, Nicole Fudo. Here you are, five stars which is the highest," he said. He showed me the screen as I crossed my fingers hoping it didn't show Slifer. I looked at the screen and sighed of relief.
"Queen of Angels," I murmured. Thank god! Or in our case, thank Ra! The man then gave me my Duel Disk and we left. Now we were all walking down a street and it was starting to get dark.
"Guys, I gotta get going. My sister's operation's tomorrow and I told her I'd say that the hospital tonight," Joey said.
"Alright, wish Serenity luck from us, Joey. I'm sure everything's going to be find," Yugi told him.
"Thanks a lot, Yug. Later guys," Joey said.
"Bye, Joey! Good luck!" Tea and I said as he ran off.
"I hope he's alright. Going to that hospital is not an easy thing for him to do," Tristen said making us look at him. "Joey's mother is going to be at the hospital too, guys. She's the one who separated Joey and Serenity when they were kids. He hasn't spoken to her since," he informed. I frowned.
"No way! But that means Joey hasn't seen or spoken to his mother in seven years!" Yugi said surprised.
"That's right, but I'll make sure that the Wheeler family unite once again!" Tristen declared.
"Aren't you getting just a little carried away, Tristen?" Tea asked. I shook my head.
"Not if he's trying to be the hero to impress Joey's sister, Serenity," I smirked. Tristen froze making me laugh. I knew his plan to well. Tea and Tristen then left to go home. Yugi and I were alone now and we started walking home. "So, we're really going to do this, huh?" I asked looking at my Duel Disk. He nodded.
"Yeah, but I'm curious. How come Slifer didn't show up on screen? He's your strongest and rarest card," he said.
"I guess Seto doesn't know about it which I'm thankful for. I'm not about to lose Slifer to anyone. Especially since Papa gave him to me," I said. Yugi nodded as we made it home. We went to sleep until Yugi woke me up by shaking me.
"Nik, wake up!" He shouted.
"W-what is it?" I asked sleepily. I sat up rubbing my eyes.
"Joey never showed up at the hospital last night!" He told me. Okay, fully awake!
"What?! But that's so unlike Joey!"
"I know, get dressed. We have to find him!" Yugi told me. I nodded and he left so I could get ready. Once done, we met up at the park with Tristen and Tea. Tristen pulled up. "Well? Anything?" Yugi asked.
"I didn't see anything and I checked all of his usual spots. There must be someplace I'm not thinking of," Tristen said.
"Why don't you check downtown on your bike?" Tea asked him.
"Not a bad idea at all, Tea. We should split up and check every corner of the city," Tristen agreed.
"If just isn't like joey to miss his sister's operation. Something must have happened to him," Yugi said.
"Yeah, and he'd never let Serenity down," Tristen agreed.
"He was supposed to have gone to the hospital to see her at about nine o'clock last night, so whatever held him up is going that must've happened right after he left us," I pointed out.
"Time is running out!" Tea said looking at her watch.
"Alright, you guys should check up here, I'll check downtown," Tristen said. We all nodded and split up.
"Joey! Joey, were are you?!" I called as I looked down every alley way. After a little bit I met up with Yugi and Tea.
"We've checked every, guys," Tea said. We heard a horn and turned to find Tristen on riding up.
"Hey, look who I found!" Tristen said. I saw Joey and smiled.
"He found Joey!" I said in relief.
"He's alright and he can still make it for the operation," Yugi told us. Tristen then took Joey to the hospital while the rest of us went to the game shop. The sun began to rise when the phone rang. Tea and I looked over as Yugi answered it. "Hello? ...Hey, Joey! Serenity's operation went well!" Yugi smiled making me and Tea cheer.
"She's in the recovery room now," I heard Joey say as I listened next to Yugi.
"Who were those guys last night, Joey?" Yugi asked.
"You mean those three butt ugly chumps who forced me to duel? All I know is I'm gonna find 'em and win back my Red Eyes," Joey said.
"Well, I'll be there to help you, Joey," Yugi said.
"Don't forget about me," I agreed.
"I know you will, guys. Listen, I'll stop by on my way home," Joey told us.
"You got it, bye!" Yugi hung up then. I started thinking about the guys who did that to Joey. Joey's going to need me and Yugi now more than ever. We will help him get the Red Eyes back.
