This morning Downey came by my room around 8 am and we went downstairs to get some breakfast. We mainly talked about the meeting we had later today. It's in a few hours in the cooperatives offices and all we want to do until then is practice once last time.
We took our stuff and went over to the offices. Downey seemed like he knows the way around, he probably has had many more meetings here, so he talked with a few people and then showed me the way to the conference room we'll be using later.
We settled down and a woman came with two cups of coffee for us. We thanked her and then started getting ready. I placed the files in front of the seats, to have them ready when the people come in the room, and then took the pile of files I'll be needing in front of me.
We had a quick rehearsal and soon people started coming inside. They greeted Downey with big smiles, since they know him already, and he introduced me to every one of them. I was a little bit nervous for this meeting because I didn't want to screw up Downey's idea. It would be a thousand times worse than being responsible for the failure of one of my ideas.
But in the end everything turned out fine. Downey did most of the presenting, as planned, with his confident style and I did my few parts calmly and without any mistakes. The meeting lasted for almost two hours, involving the questions we had to answer, and I was left with the feeling it went good.
After that we went to a restaurant around the corner for lunch which Downey suggested. I had no reason not to trust his choice. I didn't even know of another place to suggest. It was in fact expensive and everything we ordered was delicious. From the food to the most expensive bottle of wine they had.
"Come by my room in an hour, I have some changes for the next meeting" he says to me when we're back at the hotel.
"Okay" I agree and get in my room.
I was hoping for some free time but I should be expecting that with Mr. Perfectionist on the other side of the hall I wouldn't have much. I shouldn't be complaining though, we're here for business after all.
I was watching TV when my phone started ringing. I wasn't expecting any calls so it scared me at first. I looked at the screen and it turned out to be Malcolm. We stayed on the phone talking about how was the meeting and how is it like working so closely with Downey. He did mention how boring his day was and that he'd love it for me to be there. I know from experience that when I'm at work and he's not there it's really boring. It's nice having a friend to talk to and have some fun in between working.
Before I realized it, it had been more than an hour since Downey asked me to go to his room so I hung up the phone call and went over. He opened his door and didn't seem happy.
"It would be appreciated if next time you show up on time" he says with a sarcastic tone.
"I'm sorry, I lost track of time because I was on the phone" I apologize and he shows me the way to a table where he has all the notes.
"Anyway, let's get to work. You saw how many questions they had, I have a few suggestions to simplify things" he clears his throat and takes a seat.
He explained to me what changes he wanted to make and since I had no problems with them we started working. I was still in the same clothes from the morning and he had his dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. I could spot his suit on another chair and his tie thrown on top of it. It was around an hour later when we got distracted for the first time because of his cellphone. He looked at the screen and then put his pen down.
"Hey honey" he says softly and stands up from his seat.
He walks around the room while talking on the phone, far enough so I can't hear him. It only lasts a couple of minutes and then I see him coming back to me.
