The sound of real crystal glasses clinking came from everywhere around the dimly-lit dining room. Heath and Andrea sat nervously at the table with a very relaxed Luca de Costa and equally nervous Patricia Roux. All four knew something big was about to go down. It was only a matter of things going smoothly to prevent anything bad from happening. Arrangements had been made at a nearby hotel for them to stay the night at while in Paris. Lisa knew they were out of jurisdiction, but the French police have allowed them to come and investigate nevertheless.
Luca raised his glass for a toast the second their food was placed in front of them by the dressed up waiters. “To the deal of the century.”
“To love,” Patricia added quickly.
“To what we deserve,” Heath offered.
“To all of the above!” Andrea smiled. She sipped her grape juice quietly. She made sure to be safe for the baby. Everyone else, even Heath, had rich champagne to wash down with their equally expensive meals.
“So, what activity should we take up after dinner?” Luca asked.
“I was actually hoping to get some rest tonight,” Andrea admitted. “I haven’t exactly been feeling too well today.”
“Was it because of the boat ride? I told you we shouldn’t have gone for so long!” Isabel said, smacking Luca’s arm. He grabbed her wrist, quickly letting go. But the look on his face was there long enough for Heath and Andrea to wish they were allowed to carry concealed weapons.
“It is terrible to hear that you are not feeling well, but I was hoping we could see a movie. Or, perhaps, start working on some paperwork?” Luca suggested between bites of lobster.
Heath looked nervously at Andrea. She shrugged. At this point, she wanted things to be over with this couple. The sooner they get the paperwork done, the sooner they can arrest the thieves and find what they’ve been searching for since they found that note left on the kitchen table all those months ago.
“Well, to be honest, we’ve hardly discussed any business at all. Mostly it’s been the two of you humoring my wife on her many desired splendor’s she could get if we go into business with you. Quite honestly, I have no idea of what it is you actually do,” Heath admitted.
“We invest, of course!” Luca laughed. He dropped his fork and picked up his wine glass. “You’re absolutely right, though. We do need to discuss strictly business a little more. How about tomorrow, over lunch in the Eiffel Tower?”
“But, that’s in Paris,” Andrea said.
“And I happen to know a pilot,” he winked.
Patricia continued to silently play with the food on her plate. She had only found out – officially – this morning what she had been suspecting for a long time was, in fact, true. If her partner were ever to find out she was pregnant, she wouldn’t be alive for much longer. Especially not once she admits it’s not his, but the man she’d had her eyes on for a while.
“Everything okay, Isabel?” Andrea asked, sensing something was off.
She nodded. “Marvelous. How is that fish treating your stomach? Is it upsetting the baby any?”
“No. He seems to like it, actually,” she answered. Heath’s head snapped towards hers. They never made it to that doctor’s appointment to find out the baby’s gender, having been too busy with Lisa and the London police. They really had no idea what gender the baby was going to be.
“You really think it’s a boy?” he whispered excitedly, placing his hand over her ever-growing belly.
“I do.”
