"These are really good! Thanks Valka!" Hiccup said, finishing off his omelette. "Have you got anything you want us to do today?"
"Yes, actually." Valka replied. "For now, it's only the one thing. I've heard there's some ships with caged... you know..." She quietens her voice towards the end of the sentence while gesturing to the dragons flying above them. "I also heard there's some other ships trying to stop them – maybe becoming a fight. That would be the perfect time for you both to sneak onto the boats and release all the dragons."
"What about the people in the battle?" Astrid asked. "The ones also trying to save the dragons. Shouldn't we help them?"
"You can – but just make sure of this: your lives are top priority, the dragons are second priority – after everything has been taken care of, only then can you step in and help." Valka sternly said, remembering the last time they fought.
"Alright." Hiccup said, as Astrid finished off her omelette. They waved goodbye to the dragons as they got on Toothless and Stormfly and took off out of the cove.
"So... its been two years." Astrid gently brought up the topic.
"Yeah..." Hiccup muttered in return.
"Don't you think... Don't you think we should...?"
"No, Astrid. We are not going back." He paused. "Well, you can but I'm not. At least not for a while."
"Hiccup, its been a while. It's been two years. I... I love you Hiccup. I want to eventually have that dream Viking wedding, where my dad walks me down the isle, and I want the bridesmaids, groomsmen, best man and maid of honour to be Berkians, not dragons."
"What? W – Wedding? Astrid that won't be for-"
"Another year or two hopefully, not much later." Astrid cut in. "But don't tell me you've never thought of our wedding. We've been dating for almost as long as we left – two years. I understand needing another year or two for you to be certain I'm the one, but I'm certain you must have at least thought about it."
Hiccup and Toothless gently slowed down, and landed on a small island they were going to pass on their flight. Astrid and Stormfly landed after them, and Astrid looked at Hiccup expectantly, for his answer.
"Astrid, I..." He looked into Astrid's eyes and realised even his greatest fears were no match to her happiness. "... okay. Not today, but I'll try to get over my fear of returning. I want you to have the wedding you've dreamed of, and I want it to be with me. But I cannot propose to you, until I get your father's blessing. You may not want to have your wedding be traditional, but I want to do this properly, and have you tied to me in every way possible."
"Look, Hiccup, I really want our wedding to be with our families on Berk, but you mean more to me. If it's what you really want, then I'm happy to pass on this, and let our wedding be in our cove, with Valka and the other dragons. You mean more to me than some stupid wedding."
Hiccup got off of Toothless and walked over to Astrid. She climbed off of Stormfly and went over to him as well. Before she was able to say anything, he pulled her into a hug.
"I understand, but now, I kinda want this too. I want our wedding to be on Berk, with those you love Astrid. Maybe not today, but I promise we will return to Berk."
Astrid leaned forward and gave Hiccup a kiss. Once they broke it off, the bashfully climbed back onto their dragons. As Hiccup climbed on Toothless, he laughed at Hiccup.
"Really, bud?" Hiccup sarcastically asked. "I know it was cheesy, but it's true." He patted Toothless on the head and they took back to the skies, to find the boats.
As they scouted the seas, Hiccup took notice of every little detail. The small crashing waves, the ripples as the direction of the wind changes the blue of Astrid's eyes... wait...
Hiccup shook his head. He wasn't supposed to be focused on Astrid, he was supposed to be focused on the boats! Try as he might however, he couldn't get Astrid out of his head. Instead, he decided to pretend he was searching for the boats while trying to remove Astrid from his immediate thoughts.
"Hiccup? Hiccup!"
"Huh? Yeah? Astrid?" Jolted away from his thoughts, Hiccup took a moment to adjust to his new surroundings. Well, new is a bit of an overstatement, there's still miles of ocean, but now...
"Oh, the boats!" Hiccup said.
"Yeah, the ones you were about to fly into. What were you thinking about that had you so disconnected?"
"Oh, uhh, I wasn't thinking about anything! And besides, Toothless wouldn't have let me crash."
"You shouldn't rely entirely on Toothless, you need your own skill for Toothless to rely on too – a bit of give and take."
"I know, but this isn't the right time for a lecture, Astrid. We need to save those dragons." Hiccup said. "Let's first scout from above."
Astrid nodded, and they flew their dragons into the clouds – high enough that those below couldn't see them but low enough that the clouds weren't badly thick and they could easily see.
"Okay, I can see the caged dragons." Astrid said, pointing at the ships on the left. "That must mean that the ships to the right are trying to rescue the dragons."
"Okay, I'll check the ones on the right, you check the amount of dragons – and which kind – that are caged." Hiccup directed.
Astrid started slowly taking note of the dragons: "Terrible Terror, Deadly Nadder, Scauldron, Sk – wait what?" She said, staring at something on the boats to the left.
"What is it, As... trid..." Hiccup trailed off, staring at something on the boats to the right.
"It's their flag – it's the Skrill! That means that Dagur is the one capturing these dragons!" Astrid said, worry evident in her voice. "I – Hiccup what are you looking at?"
"Dagur is bad enough, but Astrid – look at them."
"Look at who Hiccup, I-" She cut herself off, noticing the men on the ship. "By the Gods..." She muttered.
"Yes. It looks like its finally time for the reunion, between me..." Hiccup calmly announced.
"... and my dad."
Wooo second chap is done 😊
Sorry for the long wait, I got distracted by this other book I'm writing and then I got writer's block and it was not fun!
Because currently I'm writing three stories at the same time, from now on I'm gonna start taking it in turns (1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, etc), so you wont get another update until I've updated the other two stories – sorry but that's the way I'm gonna write from now on.
And if you're currently reading all three then good for you, because I'm trying to update at least one a day (with all this new free time from quarantine helping a bit).
Hope to see you all soon!
But for now...
Peachy out! 😊
