The lawn was covered in snow when you walked out of the garage, a heavy box in your hands. Your best friend, Hiro, was already there, balancing on a ladder. He strung Christmas lights delicately over the bushes.

"Nice job," you complimented him. You set the box down on the frosty driveway. "I'm going to start on the roof. Done with the ladder yet?"

Hiro hopped off and lugged it over to you. "Here you go. I'm going to help you."

"But we only have one ladder," you protested. "It won't be safe." You took the ladder and leaned it against the side of the house.

"I'll be on the roof," Hiro contradicted. "I'll go first." He scrambled up, and soon he was standing on the snowy roof. "See? Safe and sound."

Your heartbeat quickened. "Be really careful!"

"You sound like Aunt Cass. I will, okay? Now give me the lights."

After climbing up the ladder, you passed up a long string of colorful lightbulbs to Hiro. He hung it up carefully. "Now the next half," he said, clutching onto the slippery tiles.

"Hiro, be careful," you said again.

"I am!" Hiro yanked up some lights, and began hanging them. He reached out, trying to hang the last bit on the edge of the roof. Just when he placed it on, he tumbled forward, sliding down the sloped roof. He landed onto the snowy tree right next to the edge of the roof. "Ow!" The lights lit up, flashing enthusiastically.

"Hiro!" you screamed. You jumped off the ladder in one leap and ran across the yard towards the tree. Hiro was wriggling his way through the leaves. You climbed the tree and sat on the lowest branch. "Are you okay?" you called.

"I'm fine," Hiro said. He began to laugh when he slid through the leaves and landed on the branch next to you. "Geez, don't look so scared. At least I didn't actually fall off the roof and break my neck." He began shaking snow and leaves out of his fluffy hair.

You began to brush leaves and twigs off his jacket. "Well, I don't want you to get hurt. I told you it was unsafe."

"But I'm fine," Hiro pointed out, hugging you. He laughed. "You're actually shaking."

You blushed. "Well, of course I am."

Hiro glanced at the brightly-lit house. "Well, there's nothing to worry about now. The house is decorated, so let's go in where it's warm," he smiled, looking down at you.
