You and Hiro, your best friend, were in the driveway, testing out a new robot.

"I think we should try aluminum on the robot," Hiro said thoughtfully, placing a finger on his chin.

"No way! We should try balsa wood," you argued. You reached out and picked up the robot. Right now, it was just a wire skeleton.

"Oh, yeah? Well, wood is-" Hiro was interrupted by a loud roar. The two of you turned to see a familiar figure stopping his scooter at the curb. "Hi, Tadashi!" Hiro called. His brother slid off the scooter seat and pulled off his helmet, releasing his slightly messy hair.

Tadashi gave both of you a smile. "Are you building another robot?"

"Yep," Hiro answered immediately. "But someone doesn't want to make it out of aluminum," he added, shooting a meaningful glance at you.

"Hey!" you exclaimed, flustered. "I just thought wood would be better."

Tadashi laughed. "Why not both?"

"That's ridiculous!" Hiro dismissed. "Just think about how stupid it'll look."

Tadashi rolled his eyes, adjusting his cap on his head. "Suit yourself." He walked past you and into the house.

"Maybe that would work," you murmured. "Aluminum and wood."

Hiro gave you a look. "You're seriously going to listen to-" he stopped, and an evil grin spread across his face. "You like him, don't you?"

"What?" Your eyes widened. "What are you talking about?"

"My brother," Hiro said triumphantly. "You like him."

"You . . .don't have any proof, so ha!" you retorted. "I don't like like him."

"Uh huh." Hiro crossed his arms. "How come you go all stupid-looking when he comes near you?"

"Hey!" you protested, offended. "I do not."

Hiro gave a look. "Yeah, right."

You punched him in the shoulder. "Just shut up and continue working on the robot, bonehead," you said, hoping to change the subject.

"That's Tadashi's word," Hiro snickered, bu he dropped the subject, much to your relief.

You were scared to admit Hiro was right. You could feel his teasing gaze on you the whole time at dinner. You kind of regretted coming over for dinner.

When Cass hurried off to wait on a customer, Hiro cleared his throat. You glared at him, but he ignored you. "Hey, (Y/N)."

You didn't reply.

"How's it going with your love life?" Hiro asked, waggling his eyebrows.

You gritted your teeth and stared at your food. "I don't like anyone."

Hiro glanced at Tadashi, and you gathered enough courage to look up too. Tadashi was poking at his food uncomfortably.

Annoyance simmered through your veins. Even if you didn't like Tadashi, you still would have been irritated that Hiro was making his brother uncomfortable on purpose. You stood up, scraping your chair back. "Just stop, Hiro," you totally-did-not-yell.

"Stop what, (Y/N)?" Hiro asked innocently. You felt like flinging him to the moon.

"The 'matchmaking.' Even if I do like your brother, I don't need you to get us together," you replied harshly.

Hiro blinked at you. "So you don't like him?"

Before you could say anything, Tadashi stood up too. "This is ridiculous," he said, his voice hard. "I'm eating upstairs." He picked up his plate and left the table as quickly as possible.

When dinner was over, Hiro went to go help Aunt Cass with the dishes, and you slipped into the brothers' bedroom. Tadashi was hunched over a book, his untouched food beside him.

"Hey, Tadashi," you called. "You okay?"

Tadashi nearly jumped a mile. "What are you doing here?" He quickly composed himself. "Uh, what I meant was, I'm fine. . . I'm just studying."

"Your book is upside down," you pointed out.

"I-it is not!" Tadashi spluttered, quickly turning it the correct way.

You were worried. Tadashi was never jumpy like this. "Are you sure you're alright?"

Tadashi flung the book across the room and turned in his chair to look out the window. "I don't know," he answered quietly.

"Why did you leave the table?" you asked instead, approaching him.

The male slumped, obviously embarrassed. "I didn't want to hear you say you didn't like me," he muttered. "That's all."

You were silent for a moment. "What?"

Tadashi turned around in his seat to look at you. "I know I didn't have a chance, (Y/N). I'm just that geeky nerd guy who hangs around you all day like a. . . pesky fly or something."

You felt so bad for him. "A chance with me?"

Tadashi nodded miserably.

"Hey, Tadashi," you said. Seeing Tadashi like a lost child made you want to hug him. "It's okay."

"No, it's not," Tadashi muttered bitterly. "Hiro is always there to ruin it for me." He looked up at you. "So you did like me?"

You turned away, covering your face in embarrassment.

Tadashi began to laugh, but not meanly. It was a laugh that made you feel a little better inside, and you peeked out at him between your fingers.

Tadashi pulled your hands away from your face. "I'm sorry," he said quietly, his face red.

You didn't know what to say so, you just let him hug you gently. You felt Tadashi's lips press against your forehead, and you froze.

Suddenly, the door flew open, and you heard Hiro's voice. "Hey, (Y/N), are we going to finish that robot or what-" Then Hiro burst into laughter. "Hey, I did it!"

Tadashi let go of you and ruffled Hiro's hair. "Heh, I guess you can play matchmaker pretty well, little bro."
