(There is a kiss toward the end but its not too NSFW)

The wind blew cold and harsh through the air as connie rode lion to Steven's house. It was very early in the morning but she felt that after his breakdown a few months ago she had to be there for him whenever he needed.

When she picked up her phone to hear a weak, sobbing voice come through asking her to come over, she had asked him why he couldn't talk to the gems about this. She asked him not because she wasn't willing to go comfort him immediately, but because she knew him not opening up to them and only ever opening up to her would hurt him in the long run.

"Please, connie I just need you.. I don't want to worry the gems- they've been taking care of me so so much- I just-! I need you.. Right now that's all I ask.. I don't want to be alone."

As she listened to him ramble for a few moments her heart had seemed to speed up. She had quickly hushed him reassuring that she was coming over right away.

"Steven- i-i-im coming over.. Stay there,,  please."

Stevens soft whispers over the phone with connie hung heavy in the air, as she climbed out of her window stealthily. Her parents knew vaugely what had happened with steven, and were very supportive of her being there for him, but she knew they wouldn't approve of her sneaking out in the night.. She would have to come up with an excuse later.

Connie replayed Steven's words looking for his speech patterns. She was checking her mind over and over hoping that he wasn't thinking of clawing at at his skin again, as he had a couple days after his corruption.

He had a flashback -a very faint one- of remembering how he felt as that.. Monster.. He remembered how angry he was, how hard he was trying to claw out of his own body, how hard he was trying to claw out of his own emotions. Connie knew he would be okay because of his healing powers but, he shouldn't get in the habit of scratching at his skin till the point of blood drawing. She shook the though of his self harm as lion pulled up in front of her.

She remembered how hoarse and gruff his voice was. most likely from crying and the fact he hadn't Spoken since he awoke. His voice scarily desperate.

When Connie finally arrived at the beach house she took no time jumping off of lion, patting him softly

"Good, boy.."

She looked at the home where from the outside, you wouldn't be able to tell that there were signs of life inside at all.
You wouldn't be able to tell what had gone on here for the past years.

You wouldn't be able to tell what had gone on in the past month.

As of this point bismuth had already fixed the base of the front of the house. The basic structure already in place so connie quickly moved past the new screen door that replaced the old one,

as she gingerly slipped into the house.
She was careful not to alert anyone to her presence. She tip-toed up the stairs careful on the squeaky floorboards  while she walked up into stevens room.

There she found him curled up in his blankets no sign of blood 'good' she thought he looked up at her with a sad expression. Scared even. She bent down so she was on his eye level as she walked toward him almost mimicking a zookeeper making sure the tiger wasn't bringing it out on them afraid of being clawed. She cautiously made her way onto his bed in front of him where she got close enough that she could talk in whispers

"Hey.."

Steven stared at connie a moment instinctively pulling back an inch

"Hey.."
Steven's voice came out almost as gruff as before, maybe even more. Steven looked away His eyes a bit puffy from the crying. A tear began to pool at the edge of his eye when connie gently moved her hand to his face hovering and inch as to ask for permission to touch him. He closed his eyes the tear beginning to drop but quickly lifted away from stevens face by Connie's thumb
