The beggars of Paris gathered in the streets. A group of young men that you could almost call boys stood above them shouting. Eponine walked towards them. She ajusted her cap and brushed her matted brown hair away from her face. As she moved towards the sound she closed her eyes. When she opened them she was in the crowd. Eponine caught herself staring at one of the boy, Marius to be exact. Marius stood off to the side of the other young men singing a haunting tune. She smiled. Marius made her so happy all the time, but she still wasn't sure if she truly loved him or not. After a few seconds of Marius not noticing her she turned to another boy. He stared back at her. Their eyes met. The boy's curly blonde hair seemed to glow. He grinned at her. All of the sudden she was overcome with the same emotions that she had when she first looked into Marius' eyes. A feeling of warmth, of joy. A feeling of simple happiness. His name popped into Eponine's head. This young man was Enjolras, the boy that is rallying the people.
The crowd began to disperse and Eponine looked for Marius and the other boys.
" Marius!" she hollered.
"Eponine come here!" Marius shouted back, "Someone wants to know you a little better!"
She walked towards the group of school boys. Her eyes met Enjolras' again.
"Ah! This is the Eponine you've been telling me about, Marius! It is very nice to meet you, Eponine, I'm...'
Eponine interupted, "You are Enjolras. Yes?" She blushed after she realised that she had interjected.
"Yes, that is who I am."
"I am so very sorry for interupting!"
Marius grabbed Eponine's arm and started walking with her. She stared back at Enjolras and waited to see if he would come.
she whispered to Marius, "Marius? Do you love me?' He stared at her for a moment.
He smiled, "Yes, Eponine, you're my friend, of course I love you."
