United by the Barricade

Chapter Two

Enjolras walked with Grantaire by his side. Grantaire strolled drunkenly. Enjolras grabbed his hand and guided him through the steets.

"So is little Enjy in love?" Grantaire teased Enjolras. Enjolras slapped his arm.

"Ow!' Grantaire yelped, "What was that for? I did nothing of a horrible sort to you, I was just laughing!

"Grantaire, hush!" Enjolras stopped Grantaire's rambling for a moment and began to speak, "She is a beautiful woman but I cannot love her. All I can do is try to make her life better with that barricade!"

Grantaire had a perturbed look on his face until a smile took over, "So you love her? You said she was beautiful you little lover-boy! Ahahaha!" He hobbled over to Enjolras and grabbed his jacket sleeve. He spun him around.

"Grantaire! Please! I do not love her! I have only known her for a few days!" Enjolras yelled at the top of his lungs. Grantaire stared at him.

"Fine! It's not like I wanted my friend to find someone that he loves!" Grantaire turned around and wobbled away. Enjorlas could here him whimpering as he walked off.

At that moment he felt awful for hurting Grantaire. He sat in an alleyway and throw his head into his hands.

What am I doing? Dear God! I must be in love with Eponine, I'm going mad! I've hurt my best friend, I've... I've. Ugh!

He began to cry. His eyes burned. He pulled his knees to his head and sobbed an hour. He didn't understand all of these emotions that had filled him to the point of bursting. The next thing he knew there was an arm wrapped around his shoulders. It was Eponine.

"Enjolras, you lonely sole. What is wrong?" Eponine spoke softly.

Enjolras looked into her eyes, "It's nothing. Nothing at all."

"Come on something must be wrong."

"No I'm fine. I swear."

Eponine rubbed his arm, "Alright then, Enjolras. I must leave, you can come with me if you want."

"I'll stay here and wait for Grantaire." Eponine turned to him then walked away as quickly as she could.
