"Y/N, that's not funny." Your best friend snapped his fingers and pointed to the safe spot in front of him. "Now come on, get down from there."

You laughed at the sound of him trying to act stern. "My gosh, Jimin, I'm drunk, not a dog."

"You're right, a dog would be more obedient." He grumbled, kicking at the sidewalk in frustration.

"Whatever." You scoffed like a moody thirteen-year-old.

You were currently walking on a stone retaining wall that surrounded a park you had to pass by to get home from whatever new club your friends dragged you to tonight. You can't even remember what motivated you to get on the five-and-a-half-foot wall a few minutes ago, but here you were, acting like a gymnast with vertigo.

"If you fall, I won't bother catching you." Jimin lied, anxiously watching your every move as you tried to maintain your balance.

"I wouldn't want you to." You shot back. "Why are you even here? I can get home on my own."

"Clearly not!" Jimin's voice raised in exasperation. "Besides, you're the one who called me!"

You stopped walking, wobbling slightly as you turned to face him and put your hands on your hips. This situation and conversation were absolutely ridiculous, but you were too drunk to care. Deep down, some hurt part of you was jumping at the opportunity to take your bottled-up heartache out on Jimin.

"Yeah, but I was only calling to see how your big date went." You said defensively. "I never asked you to come get me. I was having fun until you showed up."

Only half of that was true. Honestly, you had been miserable before you went out partying, sitting at home alone, and you were miserable while you were partying. No matter where you went and no matter how much you drank, you were unable to stop ruminating on the fact that the guy you loved was getting ready to ask an A-list idol who you could never compete with to be his girlfriend. It was time to accept the fact that you would always just be Jimin's plain friend from high school, but facing that reality hurt. A lot. Especially after years of mixed signals that you deluded yourself into believing meant that he liked you.

You knew it wasn't fair to resent Jimin for this. It's not his fault that he's naturally an affectionate, cuddly person. It was too bold of you to assume that someone like him could ever share your feelings. While you knew this, you still needed more time to truly think like that. Right now, it was just easier to blame Jimin for all the years you rejected other guys, waiting for him to come around, and all the humiliating nights you spent gushing to your friends about what you thought were romantic gestures.

"Wow, Y/N, I'm so sorry that I rained on your vodka fueled parade." Jimin's voice was dripping with sarcasm. "But what did you want me to do, huh? You can't call me completely smashed at one a.m. and expect me to just go back to sleep. If that's what you want, I'm sorry. It must be so hard for you having a friend who actually gives a s***, unlike the other ones you went out with tonight."

You rolled your eyes. "Wow, Jiminie, you're my hero. What would I do without you?"

Jimin inhaled deeply, trying to regain his composure. He knew that engaging in this argument any further was pointless and potentially dangerous. You were too wasted for him to take anything you said to heart and he really just needed to get you off that wall and safely tucked into bed at home.

"Y/N, I need you to get down from there." Jimin took a gentle approach to his persuasion this time.

"No." You shook your head and began walking again, at this point being defiant just for the sake of being defiant.
