"Are you ready to see your mommy?" Taehyung asked Yeontan, nuzzling their noses together.
Jungkook's head snapped toward Taehyung, dumbfounded by the way he referred to you. Even the boys' bodyguard gave the idol a judgmental side-eye glance from the corner of the elevator. "What the heck, Hyung?"
Taehyung blushed, grinning sheepishly. He clearly didn't mean to say that out loud. "Oops..."
"Why would you say that?" Jungkook snapped. "She's not your girlfriend, and she's definitely not your wife."
"I know. I know." Taehyung chuckled nervously. "I didn't mean it like that. It just slipped. We've been spending so much time together and she's become like a mother figure to Tannie."
Jungkook stared at the older member incredulously. He knew it was ridiculous to get worked up about senseless relational titles being assigned to people associated with a Pomeranian, but he hated the way Taehyung's preposterous statement only further supported the crush he suspected the hyung had on you.
"Yah!" Taehyung's posture straightened, and he looked at Jungkook sternly, suddenly remembering his seniority. "You don't get to talk to me that way."
Jungkook huffed in annoyance. His tone and choice of words were admittedly out of line, but he struggled to have any concern for the formalities of age and respect when it came to the girl he liked. If you were going to be any BTS member's girlfriend, you would be his, and he'd be darned if he let another member entertain such silly romantic interest in you.
"Sorry." Jungkook mumbled insincerely, lowering his head so that Taehyung couldn't see him role his eyes.
"It's okay." Taehyung said, immediately returning to his cheerful self when the elevator dinged and the doors slid open to the lobby where you were patiently waiting.
"Y/N!" Taehyung whisper yelled, placing his pet on the ground before being forced to jog towards you by an excited Tannie.
"Hello!" You said in a sweet baby-talk voice, squatting down to greet the leashed dog.
Tannie wagged his tale, jumping up to place his paws on your knees so that he could get high enough to sneak a few "kisses" on your chin, making you giggle. Jungkook smirked, satisfied that you showed more interest in the dog than you did the dog's owner.
However, when you stood back up, Taehyung pouted. "Do I not get the same greeting?"
Your brows furrowed in confusion, but when he lowered his head, you understood what he was suggesting. "Oh, I'm sorry." You said in the same voice you used for Yeontan before reaching out to ruffle the grown man's hair. "Such a good boy."
Jungkook's eyes narrowed and he quickened his pace to catch up as you both laughed together. When he finally approached, he cleared his throat, making you instantly pull away and turn silent. He resented that he had that effect on you nowadays and he missed being the person you used to goof off with, but he was still too bitter to even try to compete with Taehyung for that fun spot in your life again. After weeks of you ignoring his attention seeking behavior, he was beginning to develop a bad case of learned helplessness.
"We should get going." He said coldly, turning around without another word and heading towards the back exit of the hotel.
"Okay!" Taehyung enthusiastically agreed, oblivious as always to the obvious tension as you both followed closely behind Jungkook.
"Wait." Taehyung said, making everyone stop in their tracks and turn to him. "Do you think you'll be warm enough in that?" He asked, referring to the oversized black sweatshirt you were wearing in lieu of a coat.
"I'll be fine." You assured him. "I have lots of layers on underneath."
Taehyung frowned. "At least take my scarf." He suggested, raising his hand to begin unwrapping the thick knit accessory from his neck.
Jungkook shook his head, placing his hand on the hyung's wrist. "She said she's fine. Look..." He took a step towards you, making your eyes widen when his arms reached past your shoulders and grabbed your hood, pulling it over your head before tying the drawstrings so tight that even the bottom half of your chin was covered. "Perfect." He smiled, admiring his own handiwork.
You pouted, probably aware of how silly you must appear, but in Jungkook's eyes, you looked absolutely adorable. And you were certainly cuter than you would have looked with Taehyung's stupid scarf wrapped around your neck.
Taehyung eyed you in doubt of how warm you would stay, but he relented for the time being. "Okay...but you better let me know the second you get cold."
You nodded. "Don't worry, I will."
With that promise, you all began walking again, making your way outside into the chilly October night. "Do you want to hold the leash?" Taehyung asked.
"Sure." You smiled, taking it from his hand.
Jungkook had managed to get a few steps ahead and began slowing his pace so that you could both catch up. He was walking on the side closest to the passing buildings and had expected you to walk in the middle since you had Yeontan, but much to his dissatisfaction, he found himself next to the older member.
As per the norm lately, the two of you carried on talking while Jungkook was mostly left out of the conversation. However, he eventually found himself more concerned about how close you were to the street than how close you were to Taehyung. Every time a car sped past in the nearest lane, he would lean forward or backwards to check if you were alright.
Finally, he had had enough after you got pushed even closer to sidewalk's edge when a pedestrian passed in between you and Taehyung. At the same time, a Taxi flew by, probably going at least fifteen over the speed limit. Though you were fine, that split second almost gave Jungkook a heart attack and he couldn't handle worrying about you any longer.
Without a word, he walked up behind you and placed his hands on your waist, making you jump in surprise since all your attention had been on Taehyung. "You shouldn't be this close to the road." Jungkook grumbled, pushing you to the left and dropping his hands once you were safely secured between him and Taehyung.
"Th-Thanks." You awkwardly stuttered, going silent for a moment before Taehyung continued telling whatever story Jungkook interrupted.
Now that Jungkook was closer to you, he was able to notice that your hands were a tint paler than usual. He glared at them for a moment, as if your own limbs were responsible for hurting you, but then he smiled slightly because he saw the opportunity to take care of you (with the added bonus of it being before Taehyung could). "Hold up." Jungkook said, interrupting the older member's story once again.
"Hold the leash for a second, Hyung."
Taehyung appeared confused, but complied nonetheless, allowing Jungkook to grab your hands and remove a glove to feel how cold they were. "Y/N, your hands are freezing. Why didn't you say anything?" He scolded, rubbing your hands between his own before dropping them so that he could take his other glove off.
"Wear these." He instructed, holding his navy gloves out to you.
You shook your head, clutching your hands close to your chest. "No, no, I'm okay. Put them back on before you get cold."
Jungkook sighed, annoyed by your protests. "My pockets are warmer than yours. I'll be fine." He insisted, grabbing your right wrist to pull your hand away from your body so that he could gently put the first glove on your hand and then the next.
Though the streetlights were dim, Jungkook could have sworn he saw you blush. "There, now we can continue." He said, a hint of smugness in his tone and a new pep in his step as he began walking again, leaving your flustered self momentarily frozen in place.
