The Archies, as Archie Andrews so modestly had named them, were having rehearsal in Archie's garage for the variety show at La Bonne Niut.

Betty was on the mic and playing the tambourine on the side, Veronica was singing, Kevin on the keyboard and singing as well. Archie was playing the guitar and Jughead was on drums.

Betty was sending Jughead these looks. Biting her lip as she watched him expertly play the drums. He'd winked at her as he settled behind the drum set earlier and she'd been sporadically looking at him ever since.

They were only performing Midnight Radio for the variety show and so that was the only song they were practicing.

The first time they played through the song Jughead faltered on the drums as Betty sang her lines, his lips parted and his grip on the sticks lessening till he almost lost them and the strength at which he was hitting the drums almost completely vanished.

She'd turned to him at the same time as Archie had groaned, "Dude!"

"Sorry," Jughead muttered shaking his head and looking back to Betty. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes downcast as she looked at him through her lashes.

He licked his lips and did the drum play that cut from Archie's singing to Veronica's.

They continued with practice, but this time Jughead played his parts without having to pause every time Betty opened her mouth.

When it was Jughead's turn to sing, after Veronica's part, Betty turned back to look at him.

Like your blood knows the way, from your heart to your brain.

He looked into her eyes as they sung together.

Know that you're home.

Jughead remembers thinking that Betty had gotten the best line from the song. It was his favorite and listening to her sing it made his heart speed up.

And you're shining like the brightest star. A transmission on the midnight radio.

He zoned out while Kevin sang his line, focusing on feeling his sticks hit the drums and the beat from the music. The drum play changed up a few times and he had to focus on doing it right as they played until Archie was supposed to sing again.

Here's to Ronnie.

And Archie.

And Betty.

Betty turned her head toward him again. He grinned at her. She stuck her tongue out at him for a second before she continued.

And Jughead.

And Choni.

And Reggie.

And me.

The rest of the song blurred away as Jughead watched Betty and played the drums carefully. He joined in on the singing when he was supposed to and when the song came to an end he finished it off with a drawn out and unnecessary drum solo that he just made up. Everyone whooped and clapped as they finished off the song and as Kevin gave Archie a high five, Veronica walked over and gave Betty a hug.

Mary Andrews knocked on the edge of the open door to the garage. "That sounded awesome, guys!" She said enthusiastically, "I didn't know you could sing like that, Jug," she winked at him and he chuckled and blushed, eyes downcast.
