"Why are you breathing so heavy, I know you said you were jogging to work but that amount of breathiness does not sound normal for a firefighter"
"Mer I can assure you that I have the right amount of breathiness in my voice for a firefighter" Hannah laughed as she talked into the microphone of her earphones. She hadn't expected a call from the woman but they were like sisters.
"Are you sure? Because I know one of the doctors at Lakeshore, he's very trustworthy-"
"I'm fine!" she laughed again as she saw the firehouse come into view "How are the kids? Tell them Aunt Han misses them"
"I will. They're really good actually, Zola did a presentation in school on the powerful women in her life and she talked about both of us. She misses you. I miss you. A lot"
"Wow the Meredith Grey misses me" Hannah joked as she slowed down from a jog to a walk as she reached the firehouse doors "I feel honored"
"Shut up" Hannah could hear the sarcasm in Meredith's voice even though the woman tried to hide it "I have to go, Bailey just paged a 9-1-1 from the OR. I'll call you soon okay?"
"Okay. Bye Mer"
"Bye"
Hannah headed to the locker room and put her belongings in her locker that was next to Stella's before grabbing her shower essentials and freshening up. After, she changed into her uniform and headed to the common room for her morning cup of coffee and some eggs.
"I was thinking of giving up bacon for health reasons, but Trudy has two rules for men. No cats, and no vegetarians." Mouch told the girls - Hannah, Gabby, Stella, and Sylvie - who were gathered at the coffee machine.
"I'd add sandals to that list." Stella stated.
"And speedos" Hannah quickly added.
"If we put together a list like that for women, you would murder us." Otis mentioned as he walked over to the round table.
"That's not true" Sylvie sad as the women turned to look at Otis "Try it". Otis went very quiet, he obviously regretted opening his mouth.
"Do not." Cruz advised his best friend.
"No, please. I'm interested" Gabby encouraged.
"Um... Maybe just..." he rattled as he looked from woman to woman.
"Come on, Otis" Hannah pressured him "I want to know on your list?"
"No... racists?" he suggested which made the group of guys at the round table snigger and laugh.
"Is that a question? You're not sure?" Stella teased and everyone went back to what they were doing before, the ladies migrated to the long table just as Hope entered the room with their cheques.
"Hey" everybody chorused, even Hannah and Stella who had very clear dislikes of the blonde.
"What a nice welcome."
"Yeah, nothing cheers up this crowd like paychecks." Sylvie explained as Hope started handing out the checks and Kelly entered the common room.
"Sylvie Brett, there you go... Matthew Casey... Christopher Herrmann... There you go, Kelly... Happy payday, everyone!"
"Wait I think you forgot me and Kidd." Hannah told her as she stopped her from leaving the room.
Hope looked confused but Hannah wasn't buying it "There weren't any checks in the package for you two, so I figured you must both have direct deposits." Hope explained.
