Britney went downstairs and saw Amanda around the stove shoveling what looks like eggs into a plate.
"Good morning guys, how are you feeling today?"
"We're okay." Narumba cheerily answers going to stand beside her.She took a seat around the kitchen island.
"Britney are you ready for your debut performance tonight?" Amanda said placing a plate of scrambled eggs and bread infront of me. Debut perfomance, what does she think this thing is a singing audition?
"Courtney showed me some techniques hopefully I'll be okay. She said you had some things to tell me."
"Yes I do there are necessary procedures we put in place at the club to ensure your safety." Ensure my safety? when this every entity was what was putting my life in jeopardy right now.
Courtney takes a seat beside me as she gets her plate and starts eating. Amanda also takes a seat directly infront of me at the island. She looks tired and there are dramatic bags weighing down her eyes.
"When your at the club your going to come in contact with people of different personalities and from different socio- economic backgrounds. We have put a measure in place to keep our girls safe if they feel threatened to do something they don't want to and are disrespected by any of the guests. There is a button that is located under a small bed side table that is present in all our rooms. The button when pushed sends a distress signal to the security guards which causes them to respond within seconds. We have other strategies for example you can raise your hand and point at a guest when your in the lounge area and they would be immediately thrown out."
"Wow, I'm impressed I didn't know you actually cared about us. You know what would give the most joy, going back home to my mother in Jamaica." I said managing to sound as sarcastic as possible.
"I'm sorry honey, but you know we can't allow that. I know this was not your idea of the type of work you would be doing but sometimes you just have to do the things you don't like doing until you get to do what you like."
" Is that what happened in your case, you started out as a victim and now your the perpetrator?"
"Britney please just listen to Amanda." Narumba pleaded holding my hand.
"Thanks Narumba, I understand that your angry but what I would suggest is you listen to what I'm saying to you and try to accept your new normal." Britney realized that no matter what time of the day Amanda had on full makeup and her signature red lips.
"Where was I, oh, yes there was an incident at the club a long time ago where a girl accompanied a man into one of the rooms and she didn't make it back out and the man was spotted making a hasty retreat. When we become suspicious we votes to investigate what was keeping her so long and I was the one to....to.... to." Amanda stuttered and tears began to well up in her eyes. Britney was a little confused to the reason of the sudden outburst. She was so emotional.
Narumba got up from her space beside me and went over to Amanda and started to comfort her by rubbing her hand soothingly against her back.
"I'm sorry about that so I was the one to find her. A rope was tied around her hands attaching them to the bed post above her head and she had lacerations on her throat which indicated that she was choked and suffocated. She was my friend, my bestfriend in fact she and I were the first ones to be integrated into the program. From that day I did what I could to protect the girls who came under my wing."
"I'm sorry about your friend but don't you think she wouldn't approve of you doing this and subjecting other girls to this violation of their freedom."
"Truthfully she actually enjoyed the attention that she would get from the guys and stripping infront of people. She was a an extrovert while I used to dread going to the club. After she died I just gave up fighting and just accepted this normal."
"Don't you have people at home that you love and miss? I can't imagine not seeing my mom again or my friend Kevin. We can work together five of us against one of him we can over throw him and escape."
"It's not that easy Britney, it's not just one of him the trafficking ring specifically the one were in that is centered in New York has numerous participants and tributaries.
"What do you exactly mean by that?" They always seemed to be talking in codes.
Don't you think I've tried running before Britney? It's difficult getting away from this industry, trust me. I wasn't finished telling you everything as yet. Validation is also a big part of stripping. You will soon get used to guys sometimes even girls telling you how amazing you are on the pole or how sexy you look. Although there is alot of praise involved rejection is a big thing as well as everyone has his or her unique physical preferences. It all boils down to your body and because of this you have to posses great amounts of self confidence.
"I could care less about what anyone will say about my body. I'm not interested in impressing anyone I just want to go home." Britney say feeling annoyed and frustrated. What was the purpose in telling me this if not to upset me and make me feel more objectified like being a woman alone wasn't enough.
"That's what everyone thinks when they first start but some girls take it hard when they are rejected and someone else is chosen. You have to remember it's not personal just business. Something else she should cover is the amount of affection you are willing to give to the guests it is totally determined up to you, for instance kissing. Some girls have a strict rule against it while some are totally alright with it. Generally some clients want standard sex or blow jobs and then there are the rare cases when they would request something extra.
"Something like what, what are you talking about. Are you saying I have to have sex with total strangers. Do you not hear yourself?!"
"Britney please keep your voice down, Damian is still sleeping upstairs."
"Stop overreacting Britney we all have sex with the guests." Courtney said while getting up to place her plate in the sink. She was going to lose my cool. Britney could feel my blood coming to a boil inside my veins.
"Overreacting, you people must be joking right now, you can't force me to sell my body if I don't want to!"
"What is going on inside my kitchen, why is there so much shouting?"
