When she woke up the following morning she felt extremely lightheaded, the symptoms of a pesky ongoing hang over, she suspect. After performing she drank a lot more alcohol just to drown my sorrows and also to numb the weird feeling in my stomach from potentially hurting Jareth's feelings.
Britney made a promise to myself that if she was to see Jareth tonight which was a one in a million chance, it would be the sign she would need to tell him the truth and hope he could help her. For now though shr decided to take a bathe and get out of her present state of funk.
She opened her eyes and heard faint sniffling and crying coming from over Courtney's side of the room. She dragged herself out from under the sheets and half stumbled, half walked over to her bed.
"Are you alright?" She asked her voice sounding groggy, still highly induced with sleep. Her body was tightly curled in a fetal position like an Armadillo's when it was shielding attacks .
"I'm okay, something just got into my eyes."
"Seriously, that is the most pathetic lie I've ever heard. Please, you can tell me."
"Well it's petty I'm embarrassed to tell you. But last night when you went back to the room with the guy he paid a lot more money than what any client would have paid for any of us or even me."
"I really don't understand, just how much money did he pay and let me get this straight are you jealous?"
"Not really the thing is Damian cursed us because he said we were falling behind and said we were getting complacent. We didn't get any major clients last night while you got the high roller."
"Seriously I hate that guy so much and your crying because of that? I think what you should exert most of your energy on is how we will escape out of this nightmare of a place."
"I don't want to leave. I told you this before and for someone who is not comfortable with all of this your trying really hard to show me up."
"Show you up. What are you talking about? He came over and asked me. You were there you saw. I can't believe this. I'm going to take a bathe." She said heading towards the bathroom feeling my head starting to pound.
She went into the bathroom and then fill up the tub and watched as the water kept climbing up the sides of the porcelain surface. The water seemed to glitter even though there wasn't any sun coming in through the window it was a bleak morning. She touched the surface and felt the water ripple on my hand. She placed my hand in the middle of the tub and the water rose up on both sides like it caught in a scene from a movie that was paused by a viewer.
The area in the base of the tub was completely devoid of water. Britney was frozen and shell shocked. What the hell was going on here. If someone was to burst into the bathroom right now she wouldn't be able to explain. She hastily retreated from my position at the side of the tub. A million thoughts came to my mind and there is no explaining away what she just saw. The water definitely responded to my touch and when she removed her hand the water rushed back down the basin, spilling over the edges.
