AVYANNA'S POV
I step into our little cottage yard in the forest. I swiftly walked in the cottage without bothering to knock, that was really not my concern at the moment.
"Avy, my child you are back." My grandma says as she rushes to hug me. I let her hug me but unfortunately could not bring myself to do the same. A lot of things are running through my mind right now.
"How did it go? What's going on? Why are you so quiet?" She continues to ask question after question
I just look at her trying to make myself believe, that she is the reason of my misfortunes and behind my parent's death
"Avy, please talk to me." She pressures
"Okay, I am going to be blunt with my questions. Why did you kill the Wolf King centuries ago?"
The look on her face confirmed my suspicions and swept away any hope I had of her being falsely accused. She staggers backwards, to a nearby couch holding a hand over her chest. I'm sure she is reliving those moments.
I walk over to her "Answer me. Do you know how I felt when I found this out? To find out that the reason behind the hatred Aedion has towards me, you are the reason I was rejected and no longer have a mate." She looks at me shocked at my last statement, tears now falling from her eyes. "And you are the reason my parents died. So please tell me, why you made that harsh decision you affected the rest of our family and the worst part is that you never told me you were a hybrid." There was a harsh intake of breath from her as I rant out everything on my mind.
"Can I answer that for you?" My grandpa finally says, as he walks into the room and hugs my grandma.
I sigh irritated "I don't care who answers it, I just want my answers."
"Please sit down, my dear." says my grandpa
I reluctantly sit down, only because I am eager to know the story
"Firstly who did you find out from?" he asks
I am really getting tired of the suspense, can they now explain themselves
"Aedion." I respond quickly
He shakes his head as he says his next words.
"This happened way before you was born. It was two centuries after I ago, therefore whoever educated Aedion about this story obviously never told him the rest of it. This story is one sided and he was just raised to hate us, our family, the vampire/wolf hybrids. There are a lot of hybrids in Kova but we are the most hated because we have vampire blood." he explains
I sniff and ask "Grandpa are you also a hybrid?"
He smiles softly "No, I am a full werewolf but my mate here is the hybrid."
I nod my head
"I'm sure you were told about the vampire and wolf war some centuries ago. The only reason why your grandmother killed and did what she did was not out of spite or because she had the power to do so. Yes, it's true she killed the wolf King, Aedion's grandfather. However, the reason behind it was that she was forced to by the previous vampire King. She was threatened that he would kill her new born baby, your mother." He finishes off
That last statement really did hit the spot. The moment I heard my mother, I broke down. I let my tears flow out freely. I could not be strong anymore. I have been broken. Whoever, that wanted to break me was successful. This is my breaking point and the worst part is I have no idea if I can recover from this.
"My dear?" My grandpa catches my attention again. "There is more. Your mother was a full werewolf because being a hybrid skips a generation, that is why you are a hybrid and it's also a bonus that your mother's mate was a vampire that is why you are stronger than your grandma. Anyway, the vampire king's aim was not to win the war but to get easier access to kill the wolf King however, no one knows this except us. Your grandmother had no option but to kill the wolf king, to save her own family. This was very traumatic to her and it took her long to recover from this but that was not the worst part. The worst part was that after all that to save our dear daughter, in the end she was still taken away from us."
I now feel bad and guilty about the way I reacted towards this news. I should have had more trust in my grandmother from the very beginning and knew there was more to this story.
"Grandpa?" I call him
They both look at me
"I have gifts well a gift, which is telepathy." I tell them
They both look at each other and smile
"You see what I meant, because you were already a hybrid and your father was a vampire. Therefore, your vampire side is stronger; hence you have gifts just like vampires."
"But doesn't grandma have gifts too."
"No, her vampire blood is not as strong."
There was a moment of silence and looking at the couple in front of me comforting each other, I feel guilty and swallow my pride. I stand and kneel in front of the couple that has dedicated their whole lives to protect and take care of me. I longingly look at them; reach my arms out to touch each of their hands. They both look at me.
"Forgive me, please."
My grandma stops crying and they both look at each. Then she hugs me tightly. From that moment on, I knew these people in front of me are all that I have.
"Hello" the other voice sounds through the other side of my phone
"Yes, hello. I am coming to your castle tomorrow, to follow through with my promise." I state to Aedion as I remind him of the promise I made earlier today, to give him back his other half of the wolf kingdom
There was a long pause on the phone until he responds an "Okay."
"But I have one request or condition, whatever you want to call it."I state
He sighs "What?"
"You have to promise to leave me and my grandparents alone, we will be out of your hair but wherever we go don't come after us or threaten us like what you have been doing before." I demand
He is silent again until he eventually says "DEAL!" then he hangs up
I look at the phone and sigh as I lay in my bed and rampage through my thoughts. Eventually my eyes felt heavy and I slept with the last thought on my hand of a new chapter on my life, leaving the past behind.
