The summer before high school my 8th grade teachers decided to do a Bible study where all new high school students could come to meet up with old and new friends. they also wanted to share some words of God to prepare us for the challenges we would face in High School.
I ended up going to this first event however I went alone. I wanted to arrive at the same time as my best friend Child Killer but she is always late. The bible Study ended up being held in the school gym so people could play some Volleyball as an Ice breaker. However, being the non-athletic person I am and the fact I didn't want to play Volleyball I stayed on the sidelines.
Back in this time I had an old flip phone so I could only text on it. But that didn't stop me from pulling it out and pretending like I had a purpose. I didn't want to look like I was alone I wanted to look like I was waiting for someone. This continued for a couple minutes until I heard footsteps coming towards me. I quickly looked up to see someone running towards me and introducing themselves. Little did I know this person would quickly become my best friend and soul sister/brother.
We soon started talking and somehow we got on the topic of Phantom of the Opera. I had just gotten into the musical since I was reading the original book. In fact I brought the book with me that night so we started bonding over it. We soon realized we had a lot in common.
I have never clicked with someone so quickly. We immediately traded numbers and a couple weeks later we were having a sleepover. Soon she introduced me to her friends from Middle School and we formed a little group.
In Freshmen year of high school we all went trick-or-treating together. I dressed up as Christine from the end scene where shes in a wedding gown. One of her friends dressed up as the phantom to be my partner. Christine ended up dressing as Christine from the masquerade scene while her other friend dressed up as Raoul. We made a fine group. I remember as went around one kid asked me and my phantom if we were dating.
Christine and I ended up sharing a lot of memories together in High school. We went and saw Phantom of The Opera together on stage. We were there for each other through break ups and the ups and downs of life.
We are still in each other's life to this day. We have changed so much but our friendship remains constant. People like her are the reason I don't give up in friendships despite the hardships I've faced. I love you Christine/Eric.
