Grilled Cheese

After Yunho returned back inside everyone sat down in the dining room since it was now lunch time.

Yunho excused himself to go grab a glass of water from the kitchen, and he nearly doubled over after looking over Taeyeon's shoulder as she rummaged through the fridge.

There were two whole shelves filled with a series of strange bland looking liquids; the harsh truth of Yeosang's former reality kept coming back and slapping Yunho in the face.

Taeyeon looked over her shoulder at Yunho, before looking back and picking up one of the bottles. "I guess we won't be needing these anymore" she said solemnly as she rolled it in her hand "Usually by now he would have consumed at least 3 of these. .I still can't believe he's walking about" she trailed off.

"I still can't believe he's real" Yunho happy sighed.

Taeyeon chuckled softly to herself. "He can eat real food now I hope?" she questioned.

Yunho took the bottle from her hands, putting his doctors cap on for a moment as he inspected the food Yeosang had been living on "In theory he should be able to eat, although only in small amounts since his stomach may not be able to handle solid foods, particularity if this is what you've been feeding him all these years"

Taeyeon nodded in understanding before putting the strange bottle back in the fridge.

The only way Yeosang got any semblance of food was when he tasted it off his own or on Yunho's lips in the dreamworld. Yunho had conjured food once but as soon as he realised that for Yeosang the food was tasteless, most likely because he didn't have the memory of how it should taste, he'd never done it again.

"I was thinking grilled cheese sandwiches, is that maybe too much for Yeosang?"

"Nah that should be fine. Plus if he feels sick I'll just heal him again" Yunho said wiggling his fingers and referring to his soulmate ability.

Taeyeon pulled supplies out of the fridge, "Just please don't pass out again" she frowned.

Yunho nodded. Yeosang's words also echoed in his mind "Just be careful ok, I love you too much to loose you . ."

Taeyeon handed Yunho a jug of water and some glasses and Yunho returned back to Yeosang's side at the table.

Everyone was still in a state of awe, Chaewon kept poking Yeosang just to make sure he wasn't a zombie, until Eden noticed and told her to stop.

Yunho and Yeosang were bombarded with a lot of questions, how it was like living inside their minds for so long, asking them about all the things they did to keep themselves occupied.

Eden obviously had some understanding since he also spent his hours sleeping within his wife's dream world, but Yeosang's aunt and uncle were more than curious.

Yunho and Yeosang spoke about all their important memories starting from the beginning and right up until now; from when they first met, to schooling, games and even about their first kiss, Yunho and Yeosang talked about it all.

Although they knew Yeosang, he was in a way just as much a stranger as Yunho himself was. You can ask them to name how many freckles Yeosang had on his body and they could tell you, but if you asked them what his favourite colour was, they would have no clue.

They asked about Yunho and his life when he wasn't asleep, and everyone felt reassured knowing that a healer and trained doctor would be always beside Yeosang and was joining their family.

Yunho was a blushing mess as they all kept speaking of him like he and Yeosang were already married.

Which speaking of was another thing that popped up in conversation.

Yunho pointed out that marriage wasn't too far-fetched an idea. He definitely wanted to spend the rest of his life with Yeosang, he just felt like Yeosang needed to settle and become accommodated to the real world first before they did anything too extreme.

Not that marriage was extreme, but they needed time, they simply weren't ready for marriage yet.

Yeosang agreed with Yunho. He and Yunho had talked of marriage before. But Yeosang didn't quite understand the exact process of getting married or the great importance of it, since in Yeosang's eyes Yunho was already forever his. From engagement, to organising a wedding to the honeymoon afterwards and everything in between, Yeosang was more or less clueless. So postponing their coming together wasn't a big deal for either boys.

Eventually the lovely scent of grilled cheese wafted through the room as Taeyeon placed a tray of yummy sandwiches on the table for everyone to pick off.

Yeosang's eyes lit up as Yunho placed a sandwich on a plate and placed it in front of the younger.

Everyone watched with anticipating eyes as Yeosang stared at the sandwich. It had been years since the Kang family had seen Yeosang eat real food and not through a tube.

Yeosang felt stupid and embarrassed with all their eyes on him and more so because he was questioning himself on how to eat the sandwich and everyone was analysing his every move. He knew all he had to do was pick it up and put it in his mouth and chew, but it'd been years since he'd eaten and he was scared at getting something so easy wrong and receiving judgement.

The shocked expression never left Taeyeon, Eden, Chaewon and Yeosang's aunt and uncle as they watched Yunho demonstrate for Yeosang that all he needed to do was pick it up and put it in his mouth, and then Yeosang consequently following through after Yunho had role modelled for him.

His eyes lit up further as he took another bite, clearly enjoying the grilled cheese.

It was definitely clear from the Kang's faces that seeing Yeosang eat was both amazing and terrifying. It was funny for Yunho to think that they'd known Yeosang for years but they'd never seen him eat, well not since he was a child anyway, and not in any way other than literally through his stomach.

Eventually Yeosang got the hang of things, everyone stopped staring, and the world began to settle. Yunho was worried that the food might mess with his stomach later, but he also felt reassured that if Yeosang's stomach did play up that he could fix him.

After lunch everyone retired to the living room, talking more so about Aunty and Uncle Kang, Eden, Taeyeon and Chaewon's lives. Yunho and Yeosang getting to know about them as a family.

The day passed by in a flash of memories, the sky outside showing signs that the day was coming to a close.

Suddenly the interesting question of where Yeosang was going came up. Would he stay here in his childhood home, would he go with Yunho, should he get checked up at the hospital? Just where would Yeosang go from here?

But the answer was simple, and although it would be hard for Eden and his family, Yeosang wasn't leaving Yunho's side and vice versa; Yeosang was going home.

So with longing hugs, more thank-yous and promises to return the following day Yeosang was getting in a car for the first time in years, a very nervous and hesitant Kang family were waving goodbye and they were heading literally into the sunset as they made their way home.
