"RUBY, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE COVERING THE GAME."

Magnolia heard Anne say as she walked up to her friends, almost slipping on ice in the process. "Sorry, I'm late." She apologized and stood beside Diana.

"Hi, Magnolia."

"Hi—"

"—Do you even know the score?" Anne asked Ruby, clearly annoyed.

Josie folded her arms across her chest. "It's just a school newspaper, not the daily telegraph."

"We don't even need an article about the game—we're all here." Ruby defended herself.

Suddenly, a squeal came from beside Magnolia. Josie stood on her left with ice shards in her hair.

She turned to the rink and saw Billy Andrews skating away.

"Josie, you've really caught Billy's eye!" Tillie pointed out.

Josie blushed madly, causing the redhead to roll her eyes. She couldn't imagine liking Billy, he was horrible.

"Oh, I'm trying to make my peace with it." Jane sighed.

"With what?"

"That Josie may become her sister—" Diana was cut off.

"—In law. Sister-in-law." Jane finished, and the girls laughed.

"Okay then, I'll write the article," Magnolia said and Anne handed her the paper. "Who's the team captains this week?"

"Gilbert," Ruby answered.

Magnolia raised her eyes brows slightly. "And?"

"Whoever." She glared at Ruby, she wished her friend would stop being so obsessed with Gilbert and actually focus on something else for a change.

The redhead quickly wrote down a few sentences about the team captains, making sure to leave a blank spot for the other team captain's name.

"Isn't Ruby covering the game?" She looked up from the paper and there in front of her stood Gilbert Blythe.

"Ruby's very preoccupied!" Tillie piped in. "With a certain someone." Magnolia cringed at Tillie's words.

Gilbert furrowed his eyebrows and nodded, then he skated away.

Ruby turned to the redhead and smiled widely. "He noticed me!"

"You're delusional." Josie snarled.

"Ruby Blythe." She continued, causing Magnolia to snort.

She slapped her hand over her mouth, hoping Ruby hadn't heard her. She glanced at the younger girl and saw her staring at Gilbert, she left out a sigh of relief and got back to the paper.

Magnolia, Anne, and Diana sat their milk bottles into the cold stream, but before they could even blink someone was calling their names.

"Diana, Anne, Magnolia, come see!" Josie yelled from the side of the school.

Magnolia and her friends immediately stood up and ran over to the other girls, once they got there they stopped and looked at what everyone else was staring at.

"Someone has resurrected the Take Notice board with a post about me!" Josie grinned and pointed at the wall.

"This is so exciting!"
