Life is often filled with regrettable mistakes, and from what you could tell, this was already one of them. Why, you ask? Well, you had not prepared yourself for the incredible amount of physical exhaustion you felt just from hiding your presence for a short amount of time, and it wasn't exactly incredibly fun.

You had only been crouched behind the bush for about five minutes, but your legs were already starting to burn, leading you to chastise yourself for not working out recently. Working out more would've made the pain more bearable. Still, there wasn't much you could do at this point, and the job would be over soon enough, anyways. Through the leaves, you could see the dimly lit road and the empty sidewalk. The lights in the shops had gone out hours ago, and you were waiting for midnight, wishing that you were in your apartment fast asleep.

'Beep! Beep! Beep!' Your watch went off, beeping loudly to let you know that it was indeed midnight. That meant, if your sources were correct, that the exact creature you had been waiting for would be coming out to play. Sure enough, you heard a hissing sound coming from the drain across the street from you. It was a Pokémon. Pokémon were creatures that were feared in your world. People described them as beasts who took no prisoners and asked no questions. They were to be avoided at all costs and were considered the most dangerous threat overlooking your society. You didn't agree. To you, Pokémon were amazing and unique creatures with incredible powers. You saw the good in them, even when nobody else did, although that might have been an effect of your quirk.

In your world, 80% of people were born with some sort of power, called a 'quirk.' Some were able to move objects without touching them, some could manipulate water, and some were simply given an extra eye or two. You, however, were given the ability to tame Pokémon. Your body gave off a scent that comforted the creatures, and from your hand, you could produce what you called 'Pokeballs,' which could capture them. Then, you could release them and have them fight alongside you. Tamed Pokémon could fight against wild Pokémon to weaken them to help with their capture, and that was one of the jobs you did - saving them from a fate worse than death.

Although you loved your quirk, if you were to tell anyone of it, you would be locked away, because anyone who could see good in the Pokémon were surely not human, at least according to world leaders. So, you tamed them in secret, taking in as many as you could before the police got to them and sent them off to be killed or experimented on. It broke your heart into a million pieces when you thought of all the Pokemon being hurt.

That's why you were waiting in the bushes at midnight. You had sources that would tell you when a Pokémon had been spotted and send you in to capture them safely. Your sources were anonymous, but you were relatively sure that they came from the Pokémon Protection Agency, a secret group dedicated to preserving the lives of Pokémon. That morning, they had called to inform you of a snake-like Pokémon seen wandering the streets at midnight for the past week or so, and were told that the police were planning on investigating soon.

A snake-like creature, you thought. Most likely an Ekans. Could be an Arbok, but since that's evolved, there's less of a chance. Still, best to be prepared. It would be a hell of a lot easier on me if it was an Ekans... You sighed. Which means it's most likely an Arbok, since the universe obviously has some kid of vendetta against me.

You were really hoping it wasn't an Arbok, since an Ekans would be a hell of a lot easier to take down, and you were really tired after a long day of school. The hissing sound grew louder, and you saw a flash of purple as the Pokémon crawled out of the drain, giving you a clear view of just exactly which creature you were about to confront, and your heart practically dropped onto the ground.

Ah, shit.

The Arbok slithered around the edge of the drain, curling itself up into a sitting position on the sidewalk, as if daring any nearby pedestrians to come at it. It was your time. Standing up slowly, you emerged from the bushes, careful not to make too much noise. You didn't want to scare it off before you had the chance to catch it. Checking to make sure there were no cars coming, you crossed the street. You stepped onto the sidewalk, still a good ten feet away.
