Fourteen

Sabrina POV

I open the door to Trenton's office and walk in. He was on the phone and I can tell it was a business call. I turn around to walk out but he signals me to sit down. I sit down and he finish his conversation.

He walks in front of me and leans against his desk.

"What brings you in here? I thought you left to finally get a cell phone."he says while laughing.

I stand up and walk up to him.

"I wasn't leaving without saying goodbye and making sure you're alright. You have been distant all day."i say.

"I'm sorry."he says.

"Do you want to talk about it?"i ask.

"Not yet."he says and I nod.

I grab my jacket and take the envelope out of the pocket.

I give it to him and smile.

He opens it and pulls out a check.

"I can't accept this Bri."he says.

"You can and you will."i say walking up to him.

"No I won't take your money."he says.

I grab his face with my hands.

"You deserve this and so much more."i say.

His eyes never left me.

I release a shuddering breath I've been holding.

I stroke his cheeks with my thumb.

"I know but-"he says.

"Just shut up and thank me."i say.

"Thank you."he says.

I didn't realize how close our faces were getting but i'm sure it's because he's my friend.

Right?

There was a knock on the door and I pull away from him.

"Come in."he says and Ebony walks in.

I put my jacket on.

"Oh you're here."she says rolling her eyes.

"Don't worry i'm leaving."i say.

T called my name but I ignored him.

I honestly thought he was done with her for good.

I used my key to walk in Mama Mary house.

"Mama Mary."i yell out.

"In the kitchen."she yells out and I smile.

I walk in the kitchen to see her cooking.

"Hey."i say.

"Hey."she says.

I sat on the stool across from her to watch her cook.

"Am I interrupting your plans or your alone time?"i ask.

"No, I always have time for you."she says.

"That's nice to hear."i say.

"What's wrong?"she ask.

"It's complicated."i say.

"Oh, you're talking about your relationship with my son."she says and my eyes went wide.

She laugh at my reaction.

"You mean friendship because he's my bestfriend."i say.

"No I meant relationship. You two have a complicated relationship."she says and I bit my bottom lip.

"How did you know?"i ask.

"It's not hard to miss Sabrina. I see the stolen glances you two share. How y'all act around each other. It's reading a romance novel dealing with you two. However, I do know what it's like to be in love with someone."she says.

"In love?"I ask while biting my bottom lip.

"It's okay to say it out loud."she says while laughing.

"No it's not okay. It's confusing and I don't know what to do. I feel like it's something between us and maybe he loves me like I love him but-"I stop talking and sigh.

"Ebony?"she says finishing my sentence.

"Don't even get me started on her. What was he even thinking about? He had the nerve to tell me about a pregnancy scare and how he was going to marry her. I was so angry with him but I was also heartbroken. I am in love with him and it hurts. It hurts so badly because I have to watch him be with her. His happiness means everything to me and if she makes him happy I can't take that away from him. I'm so scared to tell him how I really feel and that's not like me. I'm terrified of loving him because I might not do it right and I can't lose him. He's everything to me."i say.

"Come here."she says and I walk up to her.

"Look at me and listen to me. You make him happy Sabrina. He doesn't open up to people but you got him to. He wasn't smiling anymore but you got him to. He wasn't really happy anymore until you came into his life. You have to let this idea of you failing go. Anything you want to do, you can do. Love is scary but it is such a beautiful thing. Make him listen to you and tell him how you feel. I know my son and I have never seen him look at anybody the way he looks at you. He won't hurt you baby. You're only hurting yourself Sabrina. Nobody can stop you from truly being happy but you. Don't be your own worst enemy."she says and I nod.

She pulls me in a hug and I wrap my arms around her.

"Thank you so much."i say.

"You're very welcome dear."she says.

There is a knock on the door and she goes to answer it.

I pull out my phone to see Ryan texting me.

From Ryan:

I'm coming down the street now.

-6:45pm

I heard laughter and I look up to see a man walk in the kitchen with Mama Mary.

"Micheal this is Sabrina."Ms. Mary says and he holds his hand out.

"Hi."i say while shaking his hand and smiling.

"Sabrina this is my ex-husband Micheal."she says and I smile even bigger.

"I have heard so much about you."he says.

"I can say the same about you."i say.

My phone begin ringing and I see it's Ryan.

"Well I am going to leave you two at it. Mama i'll see you tomorrow at the restaurant. Mr. Micheal it was nice to meet you. My ride is outside."i say while grabbing my things and leaving.

"Bye."they both yell and I run outside to Ryan car.

I'm going to follow her advice and tell him. I don't know when but I will do it.

I'm honestly terrified but she's right.

I'm in love with him.
