Thoughts from a Bug
We're privileged to be able to see
the world from down low
or up high in the tree branches
But there are so many dangers
that plague our tiny lives
From other animals in the mood
for a tasty little snack
to humans that choke us
with their gases and chemicals
Even just a rock rolling the right
(or wrong) way could mean our end
Sometimes I wish I could be
one of those beautiful butterflies
The ones with big and colorful wings
that can carry them anywhere
But, like the rest of us,
they have their own problemsLeap of Faith
Too many obstacles stand in
Our way, too many ways for
Us to fall, too many chances to
Go straight past all the branches, to
Hit the hard ground down belowToo many risks
Or maybe we're not taking enoughBrave and fearless, that's what we have to be
Even if only for a momentAway we jump, trailed by our inaudible screams
But was it worth it to chance our little lives?
Upended by the swirling excitement nothing seems to matter
Guess we'll see when we hit something... if we survive...
