I stand before you
A broken women
Heart on my sleeve
Head hung in shame
The facts are laid before the court
Shining a spotlight on me
The jury looks at me in disgust
Some with pity
And some, like you, do not look at all
Finally, it is my turn to speak
But you have already made your ruling
Will not hear me out
They repeat the charges against me
Spitting each word at me
Cutting me like knives
And finally I hear the words that crush me
"We the jury find the defendant guilty"
I am sentenced though it doesnt seem
To be harsh enough to wipe the slate clean
An eye for an eye
Limb for limb
No amount of physical scars
Compares to the emotional pain I'm in
I hurt you now
I'm hurting too
I'm a murderer
I killed love
And broke your heart too
Take me away lock me up tight
Until my words become enough
To make my wrongs right
