It was 8:00pm, when Celeste checked her phone.
She had been standing out on her balcony, since her talk with James. She was leaning against the metal rail, enjoying the weather. The sun was setting, and it was still surprisingly warm, even for spring weather. No wind, not a single cloud in sight, and it was nothing but blood-red and orange skies, as far as she could see.
Celeste looked down at the street below, and there wasn't a car in sight, or a single person walking, anywhere. A few pieces of trash were blowing around, across the cement sidewalks, and some blue and red birds where flying around, enjoying the evening, landing on, and taking off, from the lamp posts below, that lined along the street. Normally the street was packed with people. People walking their dogs, couples going for walks, or just people walking and enjoying the many coffee shops, and bake shops, the street had to offer.
The only people she could see, were across from her, in the opposite apartment complex. The other apartment building was not as tall. And it wasn't as new. The entire building was a faded-white, with visible cracks all over it. And some of the balcony railings had visible rust, where black paint had once stood.
On the top floor of the building, there was an old man out on his balcony. His balding, white head of hair, was combed over to one side, to hide as much skin as he could. He was wearing a white sleeveless shirt, with a pair of black slacks, pulled high above his waist, his belly hung over the front. Pushing the suspenders that he used to hold his pants up, to their limit. The old man was standing beside the balcony railing, smoking a cigarette. He waved over to Celeste, and she waved back.
Two floors below the old man, was a younger girl. She had her blonde hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a white sundress, with blue dots, everywhere. The blonde girl was sitting with her feet up, reading a book. She had a glass of red-wine, held inbetween her the toes on her right foot. Celeste waved over to her, and she looked up for her book, and waved back with a smile.
Celeste watched, as a couple emerged out onto their balcony. They were two balconies over, on the right side from the reading-blonde. The couple looked young, and looked very much in love. They couldn't keep there hands, or lips, off each other. The two of them were dressed very retro. He was wearing a white fedora, pushed over his brow. Wearing a black long-sleeve, that was tucked into a pair of black slacks, with suspenders. And his shoes were a pair of, black and white saddles.
His partner, had long-flowing black hair, that was tucked back. With a red bandana over top. She was dawned with a matching red salsa dress. The dress flowed with her curves, and hugged her body as it went down. The bottom of the dress was in frays, and they swayed and danced, with every move she made. And she completed her attire with a pair of red high heel shoes.
She watched from her balcony, as the couple, were setting up a speaker with music. Nothing On You, by Ed Sheeran, started to play. And the acoustics from the empty street, carried the song everywhere. And soon the couple were off and dancing. Doing their own sexy salsa rendition. Celeste watched like a hawk, and soon enough, she couldn't help but dance along. Her body moved and flowed to the beat. She was holding onto the rail with both hands, holding herself, as she shook and swayed, to the music.
Pretty soon the rest of the other apartment for curious, and started watching the couple too. The reading-blonde, the old man, and many others stepped out onto their balconies, to see what the commotion was. They all watched as the couple danced, and lost themselves in each other. And at this point, Celeste had stopped watching, and just kept her own sexy dance going, only listening to the music.
While she continued to dance, she pulled up her phone up, and clicked on Snapchat. She recorded herself dancing, and mouthing along to the words of the song, and then she switched the camera, and began to record the couple, and the rest of the others, out of their balconies, zooming I'm with the camera. She quickly added the video to her Snapchat-Story, with the words, "Quarantine Life!" As she danced back into her apartment, putting her phone back in her sweat pants pocket.
She danced over to the stack of unpacked- boxes, and sitting inside the top box, was a binder. She pulled it out, and set it on her kitchen table. She sat down, still dancing to the song. She set her phone beside her binder, and opened the binder up. She pulled out a, SAT and ACT booklet. She grabbed a pencil out of her binder, and began the tests.
She was bopping her head softly to the song outside, as she wrote away. She felt like she was back in highschool, she used to always do her class work, and homework, to music. She stopped writing, and flipped through the booklets quickly.
She knew it was going to be a long night. She stood up from her chair, and walked to her fridge. She pulled out a couple cans of Red Bull, from inside the door. Celeste closed the door, and grabbed a bag of, all-dressed chips from the top of her fridge. And brought them all over to her table, placing them all down.
The music from outside had stopped, and Celeste heard a roar of applause from outside, for the dancing couple. She clapped along with everyone else, as she sat back down. She pulled her phone out, and placed it down on the table.
She opened a music playlist she had on Spotify. It was nothing but, Top-40 hits, and 80's classics. It was filled with, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, Billy Idol, Mötley Crüe, and Eminem. It was a complete melting pot of genres. Once she had a song picked, she went back to her writing. And braced herself, for the long night ahead.
